You could always do like you're doing with the easy cares. Buy a ram or two and breed the traits into your own sheep.

I got a waste licence for cow hide from an abattoir. Just an online form filling exercise. There are two one is free😁(got that one) one is silly money 😢(didn't get that one).

Hey Chris loving the videos. Not a farmer at all, tho I did once catch Orff if that counts. Don’t ask. Subscribed a month ago and now gone through all your back catalogue! Gutted I can’t watch 5 or 10 a day anymore! Guess I’ll have to wait till the next one. Say hi to Zoe too. Ciao for now

I've said this before, I have hair sheep that shed. They are disease resistant, shed their wool and I don't have to do anything with them other than feed, water and wean lambs. Watching you and the other sheep farmers have to do so many management jobs related to the wool, yikes. I couldn't afford it. I even price my lambs above meat prices here and I sell them pretty easily. Mine are for grazing, fire reduction here in Northern California. They can be eaten at any age unlike commercial sheep as well. I don't eat mine but other people in the valley rave about how good they are. I have 12 now which is a good size flock for the 5 acres they are maintaining for me. I also don't need to mow my front lawn even though it's irrigated since the sheep/donkeys take care of it for me. Win!

@@swamp-yankee I am aware of that, which is why I put barbados in parenthesis. Locally in northern california they are known simply as "barbados sheep" even though they are American Blackbelly sheep.

@@falconk9 they’re bigger and have horns right? We only get Barbados black bellies. I like crosses but the purebreds I had kept soaring by at shoulder height during handling

get yourself to the Easycare sale at Worcester. Get a few good rams . We bred the wool off Lleyn. We recorded the Lleyn, but its a major faff and interference in outdoor lambing, esp inn bad weather & we never lamb in good weather!! I check em morning and night and go to work in the day and go to bed at night. Any hassle- ear notch. Keep what you like, cull what you dont! keep it simples

it is reprehensible that you must deal with red tape just to get your sheep skins back from the abattoir. They have value but heaven forbid the farmer should make any profit from them. I think a lot of these traceability schemes are just a form filling exercise. The tag does not stay with the carcass or am I wrong about that? Keep well and save up for some of those fancy sheep!

You can always use a Wiltshire Horn tup to produce the F1 shedding generation, then upgrade with tups from your chosen breed over the F1 generation.

Nice Monday video your lambs seem to be growing well but like our sheep at the minute they're very needy it seems when one job is done there's another one waiting as for wool shedding sheep over here in Ni ive seen them in the market and I wouldn't be that impressed by them neither are the buyers any that ive seen sold don't seem to make as much as wool breeds 🤔

Why wouldn't you go for a Wiltshire Horn ram? The original shedding sheep before they were fashionable.... I've got 23 Hog Ewes for sale currently.
