He's always great in every role he plays, but it was this movie that convinced me he's one of greatest living actors of our time. When you notice that he's a completely different character than the last time you saw him - and that he's 100% in character all the time - never a hint of his other roles creeping in, but completely different, that you know you're looking at real talent.

Considering that it is difficult to make even watchable movies about finance and investing, this was a very good movie. Yes, it is brainy at times, which couldn't be helped, but the main characters, as well as the supporting actors pull this miracle through. I can only thank them for their outstanding performance.

I think one of the greatest achievement is actually making those laymen explanation scenes work. I'm sure many other movie projects have topics that they know average audience would not understand and they need to make that understandable, having scenes to explain the terminology and all is probably the last thing you want to do, but it works well.

for me personally wall street with michael dogulas was very well done, you could be a total dumbass and still figure out what the movie is about. But you are correct, it is hard to explain finance and yet make it fun and interesting for a regular viewer.

True about this being an exceptionally enjoyable movie about finance but there are many others. A good guideline is to avoid any with George Clooney. Robert Redford, or Ashton Kutcher.

Such a great setup to reveal his character. We all know that such a person would be mocked and backtalked if they we with him. But you also realize that it would be so wrong, since he's just lacking a bit of people skills but has his heart in the right place and wants the best for everyone.

@@heewee6608 It's a type of retirement account that usually comes with matching contributions from your employer. So if I divert 2% from my paycheck into my retirement account, then my employer might match that with an additional 2%...basically free money to encourage saving for retirement. Retirement accounts are a mixture of different types of securities. Accounts weighted heavy on stocks is a little risky but also higher growth potential. Accounts that were heavy in stocks lost a lot of money during this crisis. (I'm not an expert, could be completely wrong)

When you talk about rebounds you had better start looking at the ones that didn't and how long the ones that did took. Everyone ain't in a perfect bubble at the right time. Some people lose a lifetime of shit for a being in the wrong point of their life.

The thing here is he looked at the TOP 20 mortgage bonds. Meaning the ones that had the most money invested into them and had the supposed best ratings and all that jazz. When he saw all the defaults and late payments inside of the Top 20, it was a no brainer as to how the other MBS bonds would look.

I always loved that shot at 2:55, especially the decision to have Bale stare point blank into the camera while he does it. It adds an element of uncomfortable intimacy to the shot that you really didn't need. And it perfectly conveys the awkwardness and creep-factor that makes it so people have such a hard time interacting with him.

Its amazing that Dr Burry invited this intern with the full intention to give him the job but he knew exactly what he wants from this individual. The intern has qualifications & more than able to go through thousands upon thousands of mortgages. The moment when the Intern said 'that seems healthy' & then Burry gave a wierd smile which says we have bonded so you've got the job. 😂

Matthew Moreno he paid attention basically and it didn't hurt that he was clearly interested in financial markets i mean he mentions looking into the housing market during the tech bubble in san josé and about the 1930s great depression so i'm guissing since he had all that prior knowledge and paid attention he knew what it meant. hope that made sense
