@@codybohyer1107 Coal power is pretty bad even with the latest improvements. But if Nuclear goes wrong it is much worse. I would rather have neither. Natural gas power plants may be the best option to supplement wind and solar for now.

A Botched repair that left the plant unusable, closing, and decommissioning the San Onofre nuclear power plant (in California), is hitting $10B or so. One of several reasons why nobody in California wants to build another nuclear plant.

the same wrong information like previously. It is not russian design. It is Baulinie 69 from german Kraftwersunion company, which is further development of General Electric BWR-1.
@RanandieBanane

Thank you for bringing up this important point about the Zwentendorf Nuclear Power Plant. Firstly, to clarify the technical details: The Zwentendorf plant was indeed designed and constructed by the German company Kraftwerk Union (KWU), a joint venture between Siemens and AEG. The design was based on the "Baulinie 69," which was a development of General Electric's BWR-1 (Boiling Water Reactor) technology. It was not of Russian design. Regarding the reasons why the plant was not put into operation after its completion: Public Opposition and Environmental Concerns: During the 1970s, there was a significant rise in environmental awareness and anti-nuclear sentiment in Austria and across Europe. Concerns over nuclear safety, radioactive waste disposal, and the potential risks of nuclear accidents were growing among the public. Political Decisions: The Austrian government, led by Chancellor Bruno Kreisky, decided to hold a referendum on November 5, 1978, to decide the fate of the nuclear plant. While it might seem unusual to hold such a referendum after the plant's completion, it was a response to the mounting public pressure and protests against nuclear energy. Referendum Outcome: The referendum resulted in a narrow majority against the operation of the plant, with 50.47% voting "no" and 49.53% voting "yes." The government chose to respect the democratic decision, even though substantial investments had already been made. Legal and Economic Implications: Following the referendum, the Austrian parliament passed laws prohibiting the use of nuclear fission for energy production. Operating the plant without public support would have been economically and politically unfeasible. International Context: Although major nuclear accidents like Chernobyl (1986) occurred after the referendum, earlier incidents and the general climate of skepticism towards nuclear power contributed to public fears. While it may seem unrealistic for a government to halt the operation of a fully constructed nuclear power plant, the combination of strong public opposition, environmental concerns, and political considerations led to this unprecedented decision.

It is waste of money. You need to start the plant for what it was intended. If there were excess power thermal energy storage would be perfect. People were thrust this reactor sad this reactor should be operational. 98% energy from outside is insane
