Yeah. “Gatlings” was never the answer from me. I think people said whatever thing they think changed the way combos looked in Strive, but I really think it’s a ton more than that. There are still characters who do air combos, but it’s usually limited to whether or not they have a viable launcher. Something like Sol anti-airing with 5K can lead to some sick looking combos that remind me a lot more of Xrd style stuff. Most other characters do not, and this saddens me honestly. I miss the mega hype, anime-looking combos. :( Gatlings affect this, but it’s really more of the lack of jump cancel as well as the fact that you don’t have a reason to chase people in the air anymore since theres no air tech. You can just stand on the ground and wait for them to come back down for juggles.

This character maybe didn't have as good of a high/low mixup, but they had a better gatling table to frametrap people. That was cool. Now it's just gone. Oh, you missed an important 25% meter option in Xrd! Blitz exists, and is a strong but niche defensive option that stops your opponent from being predictable and forces them to vary up their pressure besides just doing safejumps lol. Also I would like to say for the comments that spending your first 25% meter on a "fuck it" YRC is a pretty bad habit that can lead you into terrible situations because it kills your meter gain for a whole 8 seconds, and if you didn't get a combo off the opening it gave you, you could end up having no meaningful midscreen conversions with RRC for half the match bc of one YRC that didn't get you anything. Not to mention that meter is a lot more important for movement in Xrd and XX because you can't block grounded moves without FD in those games. Basically, random YRC is really strong at low levels, but once you start fighting better and better players, they will definitely capitalize on your lack of meter if you make a mistake like that
@Living_Target

@@Living_Target Blitz had some utility where dead angle didn't, for example you don't have to actually be blocking to use blitz, and for some characters the post blitz situation is way stronger than post dead angle. @@arcfieri5965 Yes, projectile YRC is strong, but it’s not something you can just do whenever you want against a good player and get away with it. Projectile YRC has a huge baseline power and gets weaker the better your opponent is. Even in the video, LK says that you can’t jump “Unless you’re good at moving in the air”, which is already an admission that it is possible to be skilled enough to counter it. LK definitely knows this, but enough people haven’t played Xrd that I figured it’s worth leaving a comment to try to educate at least 1 person who would’ve thought otherwise
@NeoBoneGirl
2 жыл бұрын
@@Living_Target No? It not only costs less, only 25% meter, but if you guess right you get half of that meter back, and it’s the only metered option besides supers that has no meter penalty associated with it. Your opponent can also bait your dead angle after you block the safejump, but if they safejump blitz, blitz is working. There are a lot of strong things that only blitz beats, but it’s still niche and risky because of the upfront meter cost and CH state it puts you in.

We couldn't even cancel jump S into jump H and jump D at first! I came back to AC because Strive was too different from what GG looked to me. Characters changed a lot, their moveset cut in half for certain or just reworked. The game is fairly slower and I'm not really a big fan of super easy damage. Gatlings almost gone I can't mess around with the buttons to create my own sauce. I'm glad certain characters are much easier to play like Zato but it's just too different. The artistic direction changed a lot, I'm not a big fan of the new stages that I find lifeless for example. @@AzazelTheMisanthrope Good point. LK has talked about this before. Funny how he didn't mention this one: Strive pressure is about delay cancels. In previous GGs, for most chars, you open up people by doing strings into plus frames, so you have filler string into plus frames or some sort of second string with a gap or mixup special, and you get to run your offence. Ex: Venom doing bunch of stuffs into Carcass Raid (plus frames) \ rc stinger \ airdash > continue offense. Generally, you were forced to continue your cancels until you get a plus frame moves or your "defense opening" move, or you end your turn. In Strive, a lot of chars (specially the strike throw ones) act similar to DBFZ staggers: You do a normal/special that is not very minus (or plus if c.S) -> do I continue and cancel into a worse option? Or if I expect my opponent to respect, grab or steal the turn and press on my button again? Ex: Sol doing c.S > f.S\walk up c.S\walk up throw > HS\f.S > HS\6S >... Where, unless they do something riskier, the cancel options keep degrading until they end the turn, but in between a lot of the cancels, lies a mixup So in general, instead of something like sequences of pressure > guess > sequence of pressure > guess > ... > use meter or peal off. It's more button > tough guess > button > easier guess >... >use meter or peal off.
