You know it's funny, even though Stearns has put together a damn good team, a lot of fans are pissed because he hasn't blown up their payroll. They call him mini market stearns. Some of the most consistently good teams have succeeded with a much lower payroll the the 2024 Mets

One thing I could say in Steve Cohen's defense they had nothing in their farm system when he bought the Mets. The Yankees Had Jason Dominguez (Being Compared to Joan Soto), Anthony Volpe (Being Compared to Derek Jeter) And Spencer Jones (Who is being called a left handed Aaron Judge.) Both Anthony Volpe and Jason Dominguez have so far played up to expectations in The Show.

@@felmin809 It was just that a bunch of their mid-tier guys had their best season then. McNeil won the batting title and has been mid or crap in every other season, Nimmo is just constantly slightly above average, Marte had his only decent year since his pirate days in 2022, Lindor wasn't crap like he is this year, and Alonso is going to give you 30-50 homers every year, but like everyone was a victim of the 2019 juice ball year his rookie season. It was the only good year they had out of Scherzer, Degrom was somewhat healthy and their bullpen was pretty good, Diaz had the best season of his career like many on the team, and most, if not all, will never come close to their performance in 2022

Speaking as someone who DID see last years falloff coming I'd say this analysis is weak hype. The 2003 Mets were OBVIOUSLY set to regress. Under former GM Billy Eppler they loaded up on good veteran players in their mid 3os and hoped for the best in a classic "WIN NOW' maneuver. That team won 101 wins but ran out of gas at season's end. Then instead of bringing in younger talent they bring in a 40 year old pitcher (albeit a future hall of fame)? I thought if they're lucky they'll win 90. But they were unlucky. -Quintana out a half season and Diaz out all season; that should put them down to 83-85 wins right? Then they stank up the place in June and had a fire sale at the trading deadline.Otherwise they'd have probably ended up about there. This year we had a .570 % in April and were dreadful in May. The difference is we are reloading with young talent as we go so I don't recommend a fire sale but rather some calibrated trades. With David Sreans at the helm backed by Cohens billions the Mets future is bright.

Was not expecting you actually wanting Alonso traded. I fully understand the mindset but with the mentality of "Needing all the help they can get* he's a proven player as to where young guys you might get back may never pan out to be remotely close to PA. I'd love for him to come to my Red Sox for a good deal. What that deal could be I have no clue but we need the power and a solid 1st basemen.

Damn you have said what I have been telling my friends. I'm a plan holder and I don't care about a playoff run this year I want this team blown up. We should call Seattle and see if we can unload McNeil and eat enough salary go get a good prospect. You do not give a slap hitter going into his thirties 5 years soecuslly when McNeil has not hit 300 since 2021. He usually has a down and up year and his defense has dissapeared. Alonso has to go and everyone with a 1 year deal. Glad that Stearns has shown no loyalty.

The Mets will right the ship when those prospects start coming up (and they already have). But it’s going to take a couple of years. And one of their biggest problems historically is that they’ll have one good year and then follow it with years of mediocrity. Teams like the Braves and Phillies have remained as good or have gotten better over time. Cohen is learning the hard way that having money doesn’t guarantee anything. Players will just use him to get better contracts elsewhere. Mets have establish a consistent good core of players.

The biggest down fall? The reason they have the highest payroll obviously is not because they went out and signed the biggest free agents it’s because during the 2021 and 2022 off seasons especially 2022 heading 8th 2023 they had to resign their own guys. They literally had like 1 starter after 2022 so that’s why they went out and signed Verlander and Senga in which they actually got both for the one contract of deGrom which was brilliant they resigned Diaz resigned Nimmo signed Quintana for cheap money 2 yrs 14 mill Robertson was a cheap smart move 1 yr 10 mill and a very good prospect 2b that might be something good traded Verlander for 2 top prospects and Sherzer for another top prospect. They rebuilt the farm just like that for the actual free agent signings. So next time u decide to make a video like this do your actual homework instead of looking at it thru a hateful lens. That money they spent turned into a really good top 10 farm system now and more to come. They’ve done well with their moves. Now they have Severino, Martinez, McNeil,Marte, Quintana,Ottavino all great contracts that they can turn into more prospects for guys that aren’t in the future plans
