That's the difference between a working photographer and a hobbyist. We hobbyist buy what we want because we want it and because we can buy it. My budget is whatever i have the money for. But every lens i have has a purpose. I bought each one to did specific things with. And I'm not done buying. It's surprising how many portrait photographers buy gear without knowing what they're buying or why. They ask what lens they should buy and someone tells them. And I'd have to say that most portrait photographers probably can't do other types of photography. I know a lot of "photographers" who have yet to learn their camera. But it's hobbyists try to learn everything we can about the gear and different types of photography and techniques. We don't do it for the money because we have bills to pay. We do it for the passion.

But also for anyone considering pro work you all should say upfront how important dual card slots are on a camera. I got all my apsc Sony stuff before I started hearing videos scaring the crap out of me about what would happen if I lost a card. Also for lowlight performance full frame seems to make a big difference. Now I’m looking to upgrade everything. I don’t need the newest but I do think something like the Sony a73 is what I should have started with. Also the differences on full frame and crop lenses weren’t very intuitive to figure out either. I think that’s what’s important more so than each new generation of cameras.

The photographer who took all the stills for Oppenheimer and before that Dunkirk and a load of other movies, Melinda Sue Gordon shoots exclusively with Fuji X. Doesn't just do movie work. Two card slots yes. Everything else you can achieve with all sorts of gear. KZitem is full of people essentially boosting gear sales and earning cash off the advertising revenue. Not gonna knock it. People have to eat and pay the bills. Interminably discussing the most sub atomic differences between gear is a waste of time. We should all just get out and shoot more.

@@kaneclements7761 the issue for me is none of the crop sensor Sony cameras do dual slot. I did figure out how to do real time backup with monitor+ app but you basically have to strap an iPhone to your camera for it to be a solution.

@@hackinghifi4247 The cameras in a range are not the key considerations. The one big thing and the starting point for system selection is in my view glass. Sony, Fuji, Panasonic and Olympus have good ranges of glass. Except for Sony APS-C. Nikon are growing and Canon have shut out the 3rd parties. For what I shoot, when matched with the cost of kit used or new, as an enthusiast, Fuji hits the spot. I am at an age and have a knee which makes the weight of kit important, particularly when going into the hills or mountains. Fuji X-T5 plus Fuji 70-300 and Tamron 17-70 weigh in at 1662 gms. Twin card slots. Weather sealed. Add a spare battery and a circular polariser and an ND10 (both lenses take the same size filters) and away you go.

Not suggesting dual card slots aren't important for paid work but as an alternative to the tedious Monitor+ workflow a NewQ Filehub ($80, 9 ounces) will let you export SD cards to an external hdd on the go on shoots. They're also useful for traveling light and not wanting to bring a laptop for backups.

Hello. I have one question which is really bothering me and i know you can help me. I am using Nikon Z6 and i am happy with how it performs in day time. But focus in dim light and low light is really bad it is hunting like crazy, super slow, and it misses a lot. Which one of Sony, Nikon and Canon performs best when focusing in low light. I am only doing photos. No video. I hope you can help me since you used them all. Thank you, i have been following you for years and i love your work, you really inspired me a lot.
