The industry doesn't try to find and develop talent anymore, you have to already build a following on your own before they mess with you or they'll just plant an artist into the promotion machine based on a popular look, sound or style. Looks and popularity is a must, talent is optional.

What upsets me about industry plants is that I follow a lot of “underground” rappers who are some of my favorite artists and have way more talent than Ice Spice. But because they don’t have the same connections they are overlooked. Razegod and Sadzilla are excellent examples of this. But it is legit almost criminal that Derek Pope still hasn’t blown up. I keep waiting each year for his music to go viral because it’s exactly the type of music that does go viral except better. And yet it never does, which blows my mind.

He grinded like that for a while with the same formula as OTR. Song with games being played in the back(sonic,mario, etc). He even released an EP from what i remember, Rio de janieiro or something. And the MV in the cemetery. Then Old town road was released and it blew up like 2 months after. He got the record deal after it. Industry plants get an record deal before releasing any music. Lil nas x isnt an industry plant and its funny when i see people mention that just because his record label promotes him a lot right now.

I do agree that it would be great to see independent artists win and get big, we all know deep down inside it won't happen 99% of the time. And instantly writing off the only people that are popular enough to keep hip hop popular, may ultimately kill the industry faster than a "plant" that millions listen to and enjoy per song. This video was great, but I kinda know the optimistic side of me is naive for thinking that writing off anyone with industry support will help the industry in the near future.
@TheScarekrow420
Жыл бұрын
One of his main points in the video is that millions of people AREN’T listening to them though that’s half the reason music is so boring and bland and why executives are “depressed” because somebody becomes successful and every other label snatches up other artists and shape them into clones of the successful artists and they flop and/or people see what they did and they aren’t interested shit like this is also why rappers are struggling to sell concert tickets with the exception of older artists

I think part of the problem with industry plants right now is that a whole swath of genuine, promising rappers got killed, locked up, or cancelled in the past maybe 10 years. Off the top of my head there was Mac Miller, Xxxtentacion, Lil Peep, Juice Wrld, Pop Smoke and too many other Chicago drill rappers to name, YNW Melly, NBA Youngboy (he’s free but afraid of violating probation), Bobby Shmurda (got locked up in his prime), and Pooh Shiesty. 6ix9ine and DaBaby were cancelled. Once 6ix9ine was cancelled, Trippie Redd had to dial it back. DaBaby still makes hits but the industry doesn’t promote him. All these dead and incarcerated rappers leave a void that gets filled with industry plants. A similar environment existed in the late 90s after 2Pac and Biggie got killed. It didn’t end until maybe 2003. A similar thing happened in rock music when a bunch of grunge artists died or got too addicted to make music. This cycle will hopefully restart in 2025. But theres a real possibility that instead, AI will enable labels to make the ultimate industry plants and nobody will ever get real traction again.

Here’s the harsh truth: To be successful in today’s industry, you do not need to please your fans. You need to please the industry. If you’re a chosen one, the industry will generate the artificial media attention one requires to be famous. We call these people industry plants. To Doja Cat, all of this is worth it because she’s “putting her foot to the pedal”. However, there’s one thing she overlooked: The ride she’s on has no brake pedals. The only way to stop is by crashing. Ask Britney and the countless other “it girls” that preceded her.

DOJA is NOT an industry plant she BEEN making music on SoundCloud yearssss before she blew up.. she even says she had to make pop music etc to solidify herself, that's why she did all that too loose the fake fans and get back to music she like , her later album scarlet. She's undeniably talented to class her with the rest

"When guests in the hip-hop industry share their opinions on hip-hop, it's often laughable. The only reason they're invited is because they're connected to Eminem, who is a cash cow for the industry. Their presence is a calculated move to profit from Eminem's fame, rather than a genuine contribution to hip-hop industry

That's what them record labels get for harming the culture let em all burn Nobody has lasting power in the last almost 20 years I have plenty artists I listen to that have been putting out consistent quality music over 10+ years and millions of one hit wonders after the other because of what these labels push

In the 80’s we had crack cocaine in the Black communities. Now in the 2000’s we got gangster rap/ hip hop music! You figure it out!

there is no such thing as an industry plant. That slur just pretty much means people dont like the artist or person and dont think they deserve their success. the thing is we as a people are the reason ppl like ice spice and sexyy red get famous. People like bullshit and mediocrity but soon as they see the person gaining heavy success from it people dont like it lol. Bobbi Althoff is not an industry plant. Hype, clout, and her own things about her that make her interesting to many ppl got her here. we only have ourselves to blame for what we later on call industry plants when there is literally no such thing. that gives off the notion some higher power or higher up appoints them a role in fame to target certain audiences when its just the people showing what they like that get these diff artist to a certain point of fame

I don't care about these industry plants. My only problem with them, is when the most talented and award-deserving artists are igonered and they the plants gets the rewards,thats where my own problem started with the plant of a thing

Industry plant talk is dumb as hell lol what does that even mean and how does it even affect people. Nobody is finding or looking for talent that is at the bottom of the pack and isn’t signed. This is such a dumb topic

I feel so sorry for you young folks. I'm sure there's some real TALENT in your generation but the powers that be for some reason don't wish to expose y'all to it. My Generation had Michael Jackson and Prince and with a bar set that high even peripheral groups of artist had to put out better product than this sterile contrived bulshit that exist today.

Hip hop is dead, rap music is it's zombie. It was once about the message, now it is about the headlines. Cambatta is the factual GOAT and you know nothing about him
