As a skateboard shop owner. I have to admit. Most of the things called out in this video is TRUE. Only things I would "debate" are. 1. "How to ..." skateboard learning videos DO HELP. But mostly for YOUNG BEGINNERS. But once you get comfortable and confident on riding your board. It's just all about trying the trick till you get it. 2. Completes are the best option if you're looking for a deal when it comes to QUALITY. Because that price difference compared to building your own, can vary from $10 to $80! (and honestly I don't even know why) 3. The abec rating on bearings DO matter. BUT ONLY if they are compared to the same brand. I've seen one bearing company go up to abec 11 in their ratings. But didn't perform better than a set of Bones Reds. A company that DOESN'T use the abec scale. But I rate personally to be about an abec 7. (witch is plenty). However, if the brand does yours the abec rating on their bearings. Then YES, their abec 9's are "faster" then their abec 3s.
@joshuapowers4623
Жыл бұрын
I think you're wrong about the abec ratings. While yes, it is just a plain fact that a higher rating is a better bearing. The reality is a skateboard wheel will never spin fast enough while riding, for the difference in precision to show up. We're talking thousandths, possibly ten thousands of an inch in precision. Now with that said, a higher rated bearing will very likely be made from better material, making it more durable & longer lasting.

I thought the same thing on completes. A complete from a quality company can save money and prevent you from watching hours of videos to find out what you need to buy. My closest shop like many is an hour away.

Skateboards called rollerbladers out for selling out, nothing in rollerblade comes near the shit skateboarding has done, skateboarding is more corporate than anything else, no sport of any kind has done this far into the sellout. Okay so there's a HUGE difference between a shop complete and a walmart board. Like it's not even close. A shop complete is more than enough to start with and you won't be handicapped at learning or anything. I started on a basic shop complete blank deck for like $75 and I just started replacing parts as they wore down over time. For someone who just wants a basic all around skateboard to learn on, you can't beat them. Once you find your style and figure out what type of skating you want to focus on, then you can build a more specific skateboard.

i wouldnt consider brand skate wax as a scam. i pretty much consider it as art since it is pretty dope to just look at (like the spitfire wax you showed for example) However I only bought Brand skate wax once back in the early 2000s. i normally used candles laying around the crib. those skate trainers or whatever are a joke though. doing tricks standing completly still is completely different than when in motion. however i do remember learning switch heelflips one year on carpet (due to the infamous Chicago snow) and a year later learning switch tres on carpet during the winter as well. however it was like i had to re learn them while in motion during the spring. I would have definitely rather learned them in motion all at once but whatever. when it snows it snows. like right now for ex....

Bearings are indeed an unreal scam, but not as described in the video. I don’t think that in principle it makes sense to buy branded bearings; just look for information about well-known companies that make bearings, for example SKF, and buy from them. Their quality will be amazing, and the price will be much lower than if they said BONES on the box. (For the skate you need 608 2rs. They have both types of protection from external influences and they spin well and are used for complex machines.)

Tbh if you're starting out it's not that bad getting a complete because you don't even know if you'll commit to the hobby. Everything else you can leave as is.

Skate wax: If you have access to a CATHOLIC CHURCH, they have the oily big candles that is the best wax ever. That's what I buy, it's not dry wax but oily holy shit! Fun fact: In a small town, some guys used to "borrow" them from an small church, then the priest caught them and asked why, they told him, to skate, the priest sighted and said: Please don't take the new ones, I will leave the leftovers and pieces by the door. Those "leftovers and pieces" were bigger than beer cans. A nice non pedo Catholic priest supporting broke skaters, really a pillar of the community.

I find the biggest reason I can't land a trick is because I need to shift my weight around differently when doing the trick. Mostly my hips as that's where most of my balance comes from. Although sometimes it's moving my foot to a different spot on the board or angling my foot a different way. And when everything else is going right I just need to put my feet on the board and not step off.

As a owner of a skateshop you are totally wrong on the completes part. The ones sold in skate shops are good and much cheaper then a separate build and they come with solid trucks and wheels. Making a complete from parts it will NEVER be cheaper then buying a complete NEVER, but since it will be more expensive, they will be better then the completes for sure. I sell a lot of brands, but I`ll give you one example of JART complete board were it comes with Iron Trucks, Jart wheels, Jart bearings and Jesup griptape, it's much cheaper to get it complet then buying the same components that I just mention and make it yourself, it's just is what it is.

99% of NFTs are definitely scams. You have to admit though that building a community is required for anyone or anything to become successful. Take your youtube channel for example. 400k subs is hella impressive and its your little community. Now add the blockchain and what you could do with smart contracts for said community. The possibilities become endless. I think thats what a lot of these skaters were trying to do they just had no idea what they were doing when it came to web3 and missed the mark entirely. I like what Mike Mo and ABD Collectibles are doing adding physical product attached to the NFTs. Giving some actual utility and a reason to purchase and join the community. They've done drops with Tony Hawk, Torey, P Rod and Mike Mo so far. Pretty cool stuff if you like skate memorabilia. Much love fam

For buying completes, I wouldn’t say over the age of 12, I got a nice custom when I was like 10 and I have been skating ever since. But I did have a background of stuff like that bc I rode scooters for like 3 years without stopping. It’s not really about the age before u spend money it’s about the influences around them. If your kid just out of nowhere wants to skate and is like 10 I get not wanting to spend over a hundred dollars, but if he has somebody to do it with or an influence to make him have a reason to skate then definitely spend the time to get him a good one regardless of age
