Dan just refuses to be wrong, even when he clearly is (case in point to today). There’s absolutely no reason to celebrate Beane adding mediocre depth. He’s doing the bare minimum. I’m with Jenna, he doesn’t really have a plan at receiver, other than hoping that a couple of these guys can be halfway decent.

WR: Coleman, Shakir, Samuel, Claypool, Valdes-Scantling, Hollins, Cephus TE: Kincaid, Knox, Morris RB: Cook, Davis, Johnson Lots of potential here. MVS: has a 9.1% drop rate in season, which is more or less the same as Gabe Davis. But he's 1. Faster than Davis and 2. He's never had a drop in his post season career. He's 38/38 in playoff catchable targets and had a TD in the superbowl last year. Also had the clinching catch against the Ravens that led to their superbowl birth. Lots of upside to this low key signing.

Beating up on Beane and the organization for trading Diggs is short sighted. Face it, Diggs has a history of being stellar for the first two years everywhere he has been and then it's downhill after that for any reason you want to call. At that point he becomes an unproductive distraction. Trying to hang onto a guy who wants to be somewhere else is not smart. The Bills are far better off developing younger less expensive talent that WANT to play on this team. I applaud the Bills for seeing this clearly and taking the bold step.
@ChillMix14
Ай бұрын
Agree 💯 and with the cap situation and lack of great talent available who were they supposed to replace him with? The chiefs won a Superbowl last season without a 1000yd receiver. Some of these bills shows don't look around the league and see the different types of ways of winning. I see this season having an offense and game plan that is supremely flexible week to week, even play to play situationally. It wasn't working the way things were, I commend Beane and staff for doing something different given their circumstances.
@PatrickRussi-jy6um
Ай бұрын
I don't agree with any of you that Beane is desperate in his wide receiver signings. He is building a new and different group. There is not going to be a 1,000+ yard 150+ target receiver on the Bills this year. They are going to spread it around and let Josh find the best option without pressure to be looking for Diggs first and foremost to keep him happy. Maybe it won't work the way they are planning but I think this is their plan. And I also think you have to realize they're going to change how this offense is going to run. Each receiver brings their own skill set and every running back has good ability catching the football out of the backfield. And Valdez-Scantling now gives the offense the ability to stretch the field. I think you may be surprised at the versatility this offense may show this coming season. Lots of changes and certainly no guarantees but contrary to your belief I think this is Beane's plan and not desperation at all.
@donl90019

Agreed. I kind of cringed listening to this one. This room is fine. I surely wouldn't want to cover this offense. It is a completely different offense and they are trying to find fits to the previous molds. They won't.

At the absolute worst, MVS will help stretch the field for Coleman, Samuel, Shakir & Kincaid. Also, he has been known to make huge plays down the field here and there. MVS is just not known for being consistent but at the same time, he will be there for depth. The other 3 Starters, Kincaid and Cook catching out of the backfield will do most of the heaving lifting. I'm actually pleased with our WR/TE Room-Go Bills!!!!!!

Objectively, compare this WR room to that of the teams to make it to the NFC / AFC championship games last year. Okay, take the 49ers out of that equation because they had an embarrassment of riches (and still lost). Does anyone honestly look at the Chiefs WR corps or the Lions WR room or the Ravens lineup at WR last year and honestly say... "Yeah... these Bills receivers pale in comparison to those other guys?" Hell no. Given the other offensive weapons and the potential of a healthy Buffalo D going into 2024, this team is in better shape than most realize. It still needs to all come together, of course, as it does with every team, but do not summarily discount this Bills squad.

I said this when they decided to rip the band-aid off now and trade Diggs: The GM, HC and QB have put the bullseye squarely on their own backs to level up and show this unconventional WR plan can work. Brady and Allen have a chance to work without the play-to-play pressures of coddling a prima donna. It think it's going to be fascinating to watch. And I think it's going to work. Even if it's not gelling early, they went on a hella run last year with an unproductive and dysfunctional WR room. Let's see.

With regard to the Diggs trade: We don't know exactly what was going on there. Was it Diggs demanding a trade? Was it the organization saying that they were tired of his nonsense and wanting to cut ties to get rid of the drama? One thing we do know is that Diggs was outperformed by Shakir once Brady ascended to OC. Diggs was a non-entity in the second half of the season. That drop in the divisional round was egregious. Whatever the reason they let Diggs go, given his 2023 season performance I am hard pressed to think that the organization lost much there - aside from an extra three million in cap space. Since they Bills are in cap hell for the 2024 season, Beane didn't have many options. He had a bunch of holes to fill (safety, center, WR, LB depth, OL depth, DL depth) and not much money to throw into those holes. That meant that he had no choice but use the draft to address needs rather than go BPA for each draft pick. I think he did well with the Coleman pick and don't blame him for using the other picks to take care of other needs. That still left him with needs @ WR. The only viable solution is to throw sh*t at the wall (as Jenna so aptly put it). Given that the Bills have Knox & Kincaid, WR1 by committee seems the way to go. Hopefully it works for 2024. If not, then 2025 has them in a good position with regard to cap space. I just don't like that so much of our hopes for the 2024 season hinges on the quality of thise years crop of draft picks.

I think Allen gets 4500 yards and 35 throwing TD's IDK how the yards stack up per player, but we know they will ultimately feel every skilled player regardless of who's in the field, has the ability to catch!
