I just came upon this video. I have a regular binder thats too full and I was thinking of using this for each subjest instead. Glad I seen this video.

I really love the idea of the binder. Went out and put one together for the first 90 days but unfortunately found it to be too overwhelming for my 1st grader. I hope we can use this as she becomes more independent. I decided to use a daily color coded folded system. At the end of the week, I collect the papers and file them away. I then prepare her for the next week.

Yes, it works best for kids who are more independent. As for my first grader, I do seat work with him, so I think the binder method should work for us...but if he was doing it on his own, it would be too difficult for him 😅

I'm not in school, but I liked this video, one thing I thought you could use the front tabbed section is to keep your daughter's tests in that section, each tab could be for a different class, then you'd have a little more room for more papers in the classes in the rings

I started my binder method with the exact binder you have. My daughter is in first grade and I tried to squeeze the first 60 lessons of every subject inside but it’s pretty tight. I’m thinking of doing the first 30 lessons instead and just purchase 6 binders for the year.

I'd like to know if you did end up doing this and how it worked out for you. My son is starting first grade soon and I'm trying to figure out the besy way to organize his year. I don't want to do a crate method; it doesn't appeal to me.

Marina how I wish I could sit down and chat with you! I went and bought these binders for my 3rd and 5th graders and am making them. I have a question, you only put 3 subjects in here, how do you work with the other subjects? How do you organize those? Do you review/check their worksheets with them every day or just once a week? We started this week and I’m feeling overwhelmed; however I am so glad I chose Abeka I love the curriculum and so do my kids!

Alina Valyavskiy Hi, yes we put only the subjects that have everyday worksheets in the binder. And I did include the tests for my 3rd grader... for my first grader I keep the tests in the test books and rip it out when I am ready to send them to Abeka. So you can do different things with the binder. On checking papers, again, we do different things. You can check everyday or every week...whatever works best for you. With Abeka you just have to get creative and figure out things that work for you and stick with it. Or if you found you don’t like it, change it up again. 😊

Was this process difficult for her to comprehend? I have two first graders and one going into second. I’m wondering if it will be confusing for them.

Thanks, we are starting Abeka homeschool on September 1st. We went and picked up our supplies yesterday. Where did you buy your move able hand clock? We found one but it was pricey.

I don’t know what it’s like in 10th grade with Abeka...but seems like you can find a way to make it work 😊

How well do the papers hold up throughout the year? I am currently doing the spiral method (I spiral 1 quarter of each subject at a time). Do you file the papers after?
@KeikiPlayTime

Natalia Jarvis I cant tell how the papers will hold up, we only used it for 18 days. But I imagine it will depend on how careful the child can use it. I think this method works best for older kids like 2-3 rd grade...I am making one for my first grader but I am planing on helping him with seatwork so I will be mostly handling the binder. And yes, I would file the pages away every 30-60 days.
