One thing about Everblack, the Japanese/European bonus track "Seppuku" is absolutely worth seeking out. It's one of their best songs and it's a total shame it's relatively unknown. Takes the album from a 7.5 to a 9-9.5/10 imo.

I think it wouldn't have worked this well if anyone else stepped in to fill Trevor's shoes. This situation reminds me of Alice in Chains where Jerry Cartnell took the lead after Layne's passing and the band's sound remained strong and consistent.

I was a fan of The Black Dahlia Murder ever since I saw the video for Contagion in 2004. I then saw them live at my first ever death metal concert opening for Cannibal Corpse, along with Severed Savior. I remember being tremendously hyped for Miasma, but when I first heard it, I was complete turned off, and didn't really get back into the band until I heard the song Unnatural Selection off of Deflorate, and then I heard Ritual, and I've followed them religiously ever since. I got to see them live once more during the Nightbringer tour, and I had the chance to talk with Trevor at the show, and he was truly one of the most down to earth people I have ever met. Servitude may be playing it safe, but it also seems like the best way to honor Trevor's memory, and I'm looking forward to the dual guitar attack of Ryan Knight and Brandon Ellis.

The Black Dahlia Murder is one of the greatest modern melodic death metal bands and Trevor Strnad was an outstanding vocalist and he will be sorely missed. I want to hear how well Brian Eschbach fills in for Trevor on Servitude. Here would be my ranking: S - Nocturnal, Ritual, Nightbringers A+ - Unhallowed, Everblack, Abysmal A - Miasma, Deflorate B - Verminous

I got into them back in 2015 months before Abysmal came out. I think the Fog was the first song I ever heard, and I thought it was amazing (especially Ryan's guitar solo). Went through their whole catalogue and I would blast Unhallowed while playing TF2 (before the game got worse) every night I got home from class.

S: Ritual, Nocturnal A: Nightbringers, Verminous B: Deflorate, Abysmal, Everblack C: Miasma, Unhallowed I listened to Nocturnal a lot in high school and bought Verminous when it was released but didn’t check out much else until 2023. Those albums and Ritual and Nightbringers clicked with me the most; they get full listens all the time, while the rest are more pick-and-choose for me. I wish they had more variety in their music because every album sounds the same, probably why I'm not as into the others. The first two are easily my least favorite, they kinda go in one ear and out the other, I just can’t seem to ever remember anything about them other than Statutory Ape which is a great song, idk just missing something, also Trevor’s vocals are kinda off-putting because they weren’t nearly as good as they were on Nocturnal and beyond.

It's definitely their weakest album. I don't think I'm even going to bother listening to it again. There's way too much mid-paced butt rock moments and it just feels like they've been doing it forever now and ran out of material. Sad to say cause I love all their other albums, but this one just isn't heavy, or catchy, or any of the things I've loved about their music over the years.

Im sorry but Deflorate is just so much better imo than a lot of people, even them, give it credit for. Front to back not a skippable riff on it, lyrics and melodies in the guitar work are on point, their best drummer and lead guitarist imo on it. There are some truly skippable tracks on their first three albums. Deflorate, to me, took the first three albums and honed it, along with having far superior recording and mixing quality (the vocal clipping in deathmask divine will forever piss me off). I also don't give a rats tail about what Trevor thought of it, respectfully. Artists rarely agree with the listeners on which is their greatest works.
@MetalTrenches
Күн бұрын
I mean I said every album is enjoyable, so I don't see the need to get upset about any particular placement really. Poll 100 people and all of their rankings are going to be different. It's personal taste. I never said anyone should agree with all of Trevor's rankings either (I didn't here in multiple places), I just think it's interesting to include his perspective as well.
