The end thoughts are exactly on point… As I was telling my wife if you don’t have itts or oobs it won’t work for me and the channel. Had I had those I would hold a wrench in my “outfit” and get thousands of views…. Very sad but it happens… But as you said Jim you gotta be you simple and honest with the people that watching your stuff…

You had some interesting points on these bikes. I really like the looks of the R18 Classic. I think this bike appeals to people who tend to be contrarian since you likely wouldn't see another on the road. To me it looks like something that could have been made decades ago which is cool. I like your point about the different marketing approaches between BMW and HD. HD uses Aquaman and Obi-Wan. To the extent that BMW would use a celebrity endorser who might it be?

Well, the Classic doesn't have the added suspension travel or the modified triple clamps, BUT I like it better for its simplicity. I've seen them for under 20K. As far as who would be the celebrity endorser...Well, Boorman and McGregor got scooped up by HD for the Deadwire. Arnold would be great, but he tends to be pro american and he rides a HD. There's always Christopher Waltz, Daniel Brühl, Michael Fassbender or Max Riemelt on the actor side, or if you want someone to extol the virtues, Eckhart Tolle might be available, but really, since this is a german made bike for american sensibilities, we need an american. A german american would be nice. I've kind of narrowed it down to a few: Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Sandra Bullock and Tim Allen. All have german ancestry, all popular and all have ridden a bike at one time or another. You might throw in Vin Diesel. Brad Pitt too. A few of them are fluent in german as well.

@@my.motorrad Those are some great suggestions. Although Clooney is supposedly no longer a rider since his car vs. scooter crash. If BMW could snag one of those guys do you think it would hold any sway with their typical customer? Also my youngest boy had an interesting take on the R18. He said a Street Bob 114 would have the same power and torque and would be a few grand cheaper (assuming the HD dealer was not selling over MSRP) and would be about 300 pounds lighter.

@@cycletron which R18? The first one weighs 767lbs. It’s supposed to be analogous to the softtail slim. Still heavier, but not 300lbs. It does have dual discs and abs standard, probably 6 axis. It has ride modes too. If you’re going to compare the R18B and transcontinental, the street glide and EG Ultra Limited would be the comparison. As far as celebrities, makes no never mind to me. I’ve never bought anything in recent memory because a celebrity hawked it or was a user. Typical BMW owner probably wouldn’t care either. I just don’t get the Jason Mamoa thing at all.

@@cycletron Some day you’ll have to tell me you’re name. I’m Jim. I’m also a little bit of a facts curator. I dig HDs, I dig BMWs. What I don’t like is the adversarial/predatory nature of buying any vehicle. If it was as simple as buying a computer or phone, I’d have a new one already.

I think they totally messed up on this one… With no dealer network growing greedy dealerships yeah but no thanks BMW. I’ll stick to my GS and stay with my Road King…

I'll test ride one. Maybe do a back to back with a HD. That might make a good video. I would be more interested in the bagger too. Less weight. Would have I don't it differently? Maybe a bit. More color choices for sure. More power too. That's about it for now, until I see one up close. Oh yeah, if you think the BMW dealers are greedy, they are pikers compared to HD for the most part. They're all thieves up here in the valley. I think I'd have to go to Laidlaw's to get a square deal on a HD. I think Ironhorse BMW might be OK. I haven't heard anything negative yet. GOAZ and RideNow, lots and I've experienced it too. I wouldn't let RideNow work on my worst enemies lawnmower. All they give a shit about is sales. GOAZ tries, but they rush their repairs/recalls too much and they don't have knowledgeable people in the BMW sales area. I've been blown away by the idiocy 2x this year alone.

@@my.motorrad even if I had to pay the CA taxes I would buy a bike from Matt anyway. No bs period. But that’s just me. I went couple days ago to my local HD dealership and was told by the salesman that got me that sweet deal on the RKS that a used Road Glide is more expensive than the brand new one!!!!😳😳😳 Go figure

You are not prepared enough about this subject. Though, there are good intentions,. So go, check, ride the BMW R18, either: The Bagger, Transcontinental or 1th. Edition and com back to UTube.

I didn't want to get into marketing BS that anyone can read off of a website. A lot of videos and journalism do that. This is from a POV of someone that actually owns and rides a BMW, not someone that's a potential convert. Lastly, there are no R18B's or Transcontinentals available locally and because I have a vacation block out this time of year, I couldn't go to Sturgis. Thanks for commenting.
