To be honest, I enjoyed the movie. When it said "Stop calling me Jerry." my blood just ran cold, perfectly capturing the scene.

If you read the ending of the book carefully, Crichton strongly implies that Beth did not forget the power. For me, this was one of the most memorable and haunting aspects of the story. They completely discarded that in the movie.

What I don't understand is why they decide to *forget* they have the power instead of wishing the power away. Doesn't the former mean that they still have the power?

+Schwatvogel The book made it clear that the power would eventually kill them or those close to them, hence why the giant squid kept showing up.

only recently did I get into your content and what do I see? a fellow Crichton lover! so happy, sadly his work isn't as popular on youtube or the booktube section, a shame really, my personal favourite is Timeline,, though I liked Sphere as well (I honestly can't choose my top 3 anymore, cause I enjoyed Congo, Micro and Jurassic Park too much)! good to know that at least this adaptation and Jurassic Park were decent, great job KR! very funny video, shame I'm only seeing it now; wonder how the Congo adaptation turned out...

I see the problem you seem to have found with the bombs. Why not wish them away? Although in principle you're right. Remember this: Harry told them that there is only one outcome for this adventure of theirs and that is death. He thinks that if any of them succeded, the event would be known by the armed forces and therefore the spaceship's accident in the future would be prevented. But since the spaceship is right there. It means that they were unsuccesful in returning to the surface safely (this is Harry's interpretation). So this idea goes into their heads and they're unable to shake it off and they never think about the possibility that the spaceship might not be destroyed because it would be in conflict with the timeline. The spaceship has to be destroyed otherwise the Navy would just send another team down there, they would find out about the origin of the spaceship, this would very likely prevent the accident resulting in the spaceship not being down there. But there it is. Anyway, that's my take on it.

Beth drugged Harry so he can’t use the power the last section of the book. Also Beth’s strength in the power was much stronger than Norman and Harry together. The Sphere feeds off of ones insecurities, something Beth had a shit ton of.
@dancegregorydance6933

I’m might be wrong but at one point in the book Norman tries to out power Beth and fails miserably. Beth turns the bombs back on immediately. Which is why Norman realizes he has to knock Beth out cold to escape.

This movie got me into Michael Crichton. How his films were adapted were a lot better than most. I was young when i saw the movie but when my uncle bought me the book i was hooked and couldn't stop reading his work. He put so much effort in his books you cant possibly put all of his writing into a film that doesn't bore the masses. That is a compliment by the way.

what people don't seem to realize is that when you're on a budget and a time frame, you can't project a book word for word. the budget kills that; the timeframe kills the planning process, and dumb writers and editors as well.

Written literature has so much more room for growth. Far more can be accomplished in a novel. A movie based on a book is never gonna be as good. Therefore if you've read the book first you won't enjoy the movie so much. I didn't even know there WAS a book and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It fucks with your mind and confuses you at times. Just when you think you have it figured out it throws a curveball. I love movies like that. I read the Harry Potter books. Many, many times. I adore them. They're my favourite books. I watched the movies and was severely disappointed by them. If I'd watched the movies first I'd have loved them but because I was a fan of the books the deviations or missed details upset me. My suggestion? Don't critique a movie based on a book if you've already read the book. You're gonna be disappointed, there's no avoiding that. Still a good review though. Well structured and everything. I just disagree with some of the pacing complaints. I think it was executed well. The whole concept was fear. When becoming afraid your heartbeat gradually begins to pick up pace. The movie picked up pace as it went along much like a heartbeat until it left you in a furious disarray of confusion not knowing which way was up. I believe this was a deliberate machination in order to disorient the audience in a way that would scare them. Not in a horror movie sense. More a questioning everything sense. The moral of the movie was that they had no enemy but each other. The sphere bestowed them with an incredible gift that they turned into a curse. THEY were the danger. Not the sphere, not anything or anyone else. That concept was fantastic and a very accurate observation on human society. One day there WILL be an apocalypse of sorts, I am almost certain and we'll bring it about. We are our own worst enemy.

Chrichton has copied the plot line from FORBIDDEN PLANET (which was based on THE TEMPEST). For me, this ruined the denouement in Chricton's book. I've not seen the film, but intend to.

Stop making jokes and using bad effects to "spice up" your video. It comes across as cheap and forced humor, which leads to awkwardness. Like, "I wanna like the vid, but it tried to force me to laugh by stretching my mouth open and hitting me in the diaphragm. Less funny, more traumatizing."
