Very good job. Clear description of vibration! The only explanation I've heard for how and why to align the boring bar. Thanks

Actually aligning the boring bar with the C/L of the head while being technically correct failed to mention if the bar isn't correctly aligned then almost for sure the back edge of the bar will rub. That prevents the tool from cutting properly. And even doing everything correctly many of those 9 pc. carbide tipped boring bars come from the factory incorrectly sharpened so the back of the boring bar tip touches first.

And checking again the following day reveals the bore is under-sized! Thermal expansion coefficient needs to be accounted for a true bore size. Overhaul good vid!

Hi Folks, This REALLY is a very good video about how to use a boring head. And despite the title it is in English! It's sad that Tavis did not make more. BobUK

Good Video !! One question.... Say someone drilled a 5/8" hole on a drill press and it was a little off center.... can I make it a 3/4" hole on the milling machine and move the hole ? I am asking can I bore more on one side of the hole than the other, thus moving the hold a little?

Very good video and you made a point of only using the center gib screw to lock the slide. Many use all 3 and that's not how it's done and Criterion points out this on there website as well as having a lot of other boring head information. Once the outer two screws are properly adjusted there then left alone until enough wear at some point in the future requires them to be readjusted. However it's pronounced Gib not Jib. A hard G not J. Jibs are on sailing ships and cranes not machine tools or the accessory's for them. No your not teaching English lessons, but it's best to be correct about what the parts are called. Just like some lathes cross slides, not all boring heads are adjusted as a radius number, some have direct reading dials that move the slide half the distance so what you dial in is the actual bore size.
