Thanks, Johnny! I had to study it for a long time for the collaboration project I was working on. I wanted to get my parts as close to the original as possible. Of course I missed a few things. It's tough trying to memorize every stroke of someone else's musical vision, whereas they are just making it up as they go. Hello to the Ukraine! (My brother's wife's family are Ukrainian.)

Thanks, Jim. GG is definitely a band that takes some listening to before one can fully appreciate them. I find that musicians come around a lot quicker than others, because they can appreciate the complexity of the juxtaposed arrangements and counterpoint. Most of their stuff is fantastic. But they do have some over-indulgent pieces also.

Nice feel and I luv that set up. I miss the days when this style of music was more prominent than it is today. Back in the day I had a ton of "fusion" type albums (Jean Luc Ponty, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Chick Corea etc). This reminds me of some of that. Cool!

Thanks, Amy! I love this "intricate" stuff. Not much room for 4/4 here. But it's definitely 'An Acquired Taste', (one of their album titles). I admit I missed a couple of John Weather's original cues - some quiet crashes, or hits on a tom that I instead played on my snare - but it won't matter for the collab. For that, I just concentrated on getting the timing changes and the fills right. The little deviations from the original fall within a drummer's musical license as acceptable indulgence.

Nice job on the drumming my man from another drummer I never tried that one nothing fancy but some cool unusual timing courtesy of Gentle Giant which was the norm for them ---cool drumset too I only have a good 5 piece Premier Resonator kit that I've had for over 30 years now, I sometimes wish I had a few more drums but it's easy to cart around considering most of my gigs involve some travel

Amazing job. Do you have any advice on how to get the timing correct on the chorus when you have to end the drum fill and return to the ride cymbal? I rarely struggle with weird time signatures, but whenever I try to air drum to that part, I always exit the drum fill 2 beats too early.
@17drums

Thanks! I play strictly by ear, which means listening to the piece a thousand times to memorize the fills and timing. Even then, because there are so many variations, I always miss a few things. I'm not sure which part you're talking about. Could you list a time marker when it happens? Maybe then, I might have a more specific answer for you.

Now you know how I've felt all my life, watching you righties! The funny thing is, I'm actually right-handed. I just thought that the drums descended down to the left, like a keyboard, so I set them up that way and taught myself to play them that way. Didn't discover that I was "backwards" until a few years later. Eventually, I did set up another set of mine righty, and learned to play that way too. Still, I prefer the lefty set-up because I've done it that way for so long. Thanks for watching!

Thanks, Dan. Sorry for the late response. (Just discovered your comment in the possible-spam page). I do play to Phil's later period - Abacab, We Can't Dance, etc - while I practice, but I like his earlier stuff best under Gabriel, when Phil wasn't focusing on lead vocals. To me, he seems to have simplified his playing a bit in the later years, probably to make it easier to both sing and play at the same time.
