Carly, I believe it's because it's what the show is about. Everybody connects with that particular statement. There is a time in your life where you felt others or a sibling of hers is seemingly getting more and more attention than she. And naturally she feels some kind of way, perhaps jealous and or angry, and you say to yourself the name that upsets you the most i.e. her sister Marcia, Marsha, Marsha! Everybody has felt that way sometime in their life and that is why the statement so memorable, then becoming popular. These shows were designed to work that way.

Funny how in the later years that Jan turned out better than Marcia. There was the episode in which the ice cream parlor owner could only afford to maintain one employee rather than two, and so he kept Jan instead of Marcia. Then, in the Brady Bunch movies, Jan had both a better career and a more successful husband than did Marcia.

I think it was the movie, "Moby Dick", the one made in 2011, that was criticized because in it nobody cussed. What people didn't know, was history they don't teach in school. At the time period of the novel and in which the movie was 'set', people did not cuss. A Christian great awakening had occurred in years prior, and people quit cussing. There was one in Wales once, called the Welsh Revival. So many people became saved that police had nothing to do, no one was committing crimes. Coal production severely declined for a time, because the mules had learned their commands before the Revival. The miners had used cusswords for commands. After the Revival, the miners refused to cuss and it took awhile for the mules to learn new command words. God help our country. We need a revival like that.
