Kiara Aiello shares information about neurons with you. Hopefully, it will complement your image of these cells. During brain development, a specific type of cells -Cortical Interneurons- migrate long distances from their developing areas to reach their final position. This position is extremely relevant since these Interneurons are inhibitory, regulating the rest 80% excitatory neurons. We can think of our neocortex as an internal orchestra, where all types of cells produce 'music': 80% sending messages and 20% being their conductor regulating them.
Why should we gain knowledge of this process? Well, simply because to approach brains with developmental differences that translate in Epilepsia, Schizophrenia, Autism, we need first to understand how this organ generally develops in order to address the advantages and disadvantages of brains developing differently.
