Gabe Romero for the most part, yeah i agree. drums is pretty easy to teach to yourself depending on the style. and if anything in this day and age all you need to do to learn a technique is go on youtube or if you know how to read sheet music look at the charts.

That explains his awful technique causing him to lose so much energy while playing simple patterns. The passion is there hell ya. But I grow tired of drummers bragging about how they were self taught. Who really cares? It's like a shameful thing to be taught drums anymore by a teacher. Screw sheet music I mean REALLY being taught how to play drums. I have been getting trained for 4 years and have no shame at all. We all need a teacher or mentor to get us to higher avenues, if not we just settle for mediocre.
@theodorefabijan834

Yes but he grew up in a different time, probably has more money for and so on.... Luke Holland was self taught as well. djent is totally a genre No one has claimed he is the best drummer in the world? Luke Holland is great, but what he's saying is Mike doesn't deserve all this hate. Luke and many other drummers grew up in different times and with different cultures. Him and Vic were poor and they grew up in the mexican culture. His dad didn't exactly teach him metal drumming on an expensive drumset. He might not be the best, but he's great, he's passionate and he deserves everything he has.

I want to clear something up, to every one saying that he didn't deserve the best drummer award.. HE DID! He deserved every bit of it! Sure maybe Mike doesn't have the best technique or stick control, but damn does this man have soul. Pierce the veil is my favorite band, and I admire them so much. Being that he hasn't had a single lesson and was taught by his father is so cool. He has so much passion, and you can just see and feel his love for the drums through a screen. I honestly think that's great and hate when people don't know a band past the lead singer, but it's absoulutley ridiculous, and can be very frustrating, that people want to argue with others with years of experience about drumming when they haven't even picked up a pair of sticks.

I go pretty nuts live and they don't budge an inch. Just make sure you use comply buds on them (They squash and slowly expand in your ear). That's what stops noise getting in ultimately. I hope that helps!

We asked Mike and here is what he said: "Before I started using my ultimate ears (which are custom molds to fit inside my ear), I used Shure ear buds as well. I did have problems with them falling out from movement and moisture but if you can find the right size ear buds that lock in the best you should be ok. Shure also makes different size foam ear buds that expand inside your ear that I recommend. Hope this helps, Keep rockin!"

Matt Greiner loves what he does as well. His parts are much more technical and require more focus to play correctly. Matt Greiner is by no means boring to watch and is a great drummer in a genre full of mediocre drummers. I like Mike as well though. I don't like Pierce The Veil's music, but I think Mike is very exciting to watch and it's clear that he loves what he does and puts a lot of heart into his playing. He's also a pretty good drummer for the genre he plays in, which is commendable. But comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. They play in bands that sound nothing alike and they have completely different drumming styles. Both are good in their own right and deserve respect for doing what they love and pursuing their dreams of playing music. Music isn't a competition, it's art.

NICKHAM16 Amen to you for saying that. It shouldnt be about who is better than who and which band is better than the other. Music is definitely an art and both drummers are brilliant in their own ways. We should all just enjoy the video instead of comparing about everything.
