Currently reading Odinn's Child by Tim Severin. What an amazing man. Not only did he write amazing stories he lived one too. Shame he doesnt get that much recognition. This is guy is a true legend. RIP Tim.

I saw this boat in 1976 when I went to the Boat Show in London with my dad. He died 6 weeks later. I then saw it again last year (2021) at Cragganowen in Co Clare. Brought back memories.

R.I.P Tim Severin. It was a remarkable achievement to follow instructions recorded in the 6th century that involve building a leather/wooden boat and replicate a voyage across the Atlantic, proving that it was very likely to be based on actual events.

@barry herpes, I have, really enjoyed it, I vaguely recall that he disappeared on another voyage. Try to find 'A Giant in Hiding' by Lawrence G. Green, who built a copy of Slocum's boat, great book. Look for more Tim Severin books, he's a historical explorer, start with 'The Jason Voyage'.

The narrator's voice is going up and down, it's just less noticeable because human voices naturally go up and down already. You can hear it around 1:14 There's a very high quality version here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2Hhoq6eQoayHp3o But it's only the first few minutes of the documentary

If youre in 7th grade I can see how financials could be a problem, but there are several simple bought that one could build for less than $400. I recommend picking up some boat building books first from the library so you can see whats involve. I would try building a bookshelf first though using proper woodworking principles.

A week ago a conversation about seasoning timber for waggon wheel hubs on KZitem kzitem.info/news/bejne/mYuKmmyIg3RifII&lc=Ugyp5y40SoN7nToMvKp4AaABAg.9PsiGRNkJ7s9Q6Ei1T7CiG reminded me of Tim Severin's Experimental Archaeological endeavours that I had read in my youth. This set me to re-reading the Brendan Voyage, (classic books like that you NEVER throw away!), but my edition predates the film and all illustrations are drawings. I think to myself: There was a film made about this. 45 years on, with the magic (for those times :-) of KZitem, somebody must have posted something! Low and behold, some kind person has done the world a great favour and up-loaded it, (thank you Marcus Ua Donnghaile !), and I can put real pictures to what I have just been reading. Now I will continue reading before watching Part Two.
