It's sad and kind of hilarious how many people assume the first time they heard a story/song/joke is the original version. I enjoyed your addition of animation, don't let ignorant naysayers stop you from doing more.

My A-Level physics teacher actually used a version of this as a mechanics question. We not only had to calculate the velocity for the ascent and descent, but we also had to calculate whether the force at the, I believe in his version it was the 4th floor and a seven story building, would have been enough to cause the described injuries. Bit fuzzy on the details though, it was over 6 years ago.

Dear Sir, I write this note to you to tell you of me plight And at the time of writing, I am not a pretty sight Me body is all black and blue, me face a deathly gray And I write this note to say why Paddy's not at work today While working on the 14th floor, some bricks I had to clear Now, to throw them down from such a height was not a good idea The foreman wasn't very pleased, he being an awkward sod He said I'd have to cart them down the ladders in me hod Now, clearing all these bricks by hand it was so very slow So I hoisted up a barrel and secured the rope below But in me haste to do the job, I was too blind to see That a barrelful of building bricks was heavier than me So when I untied the rope the barrel fell like lead And clinging tightly to the rope I started up instead Well, I shot up like a rocket 'til to my dismay I found That halfway up, I met the bloody barrel comming down Well, the barrel broke me shoulder as to the ground it sped And when I reached the top, I banged the pully with my head Well, I clung on tight through numbed shock from this almighty blow And the barrel spilled out half the bricks 14 floors below Now, when these bricks had fallen from the barrel to the floor I then outweighed the barrel and so started down once more Still clinging tightly to the rope, I sped towards the ground And I landed on the broken bricks that were all scattered round Well, I lay there groaning on the ground, I thougth I'd passed the worst When the barrel hit the pully-wheel and then the bottom burst Well, a shower of bricks rained down on me, I hadn't got a hope As I lay there moaning on the ground, I let go of the bloody rope The barrel than being heavier, it started down once more And landed right across me, as I lay upon the floor Well, it broke three ribs and my left arm and I can only say That I hope you'll understand why Paddy's not at work today

One time I was swinging on a rope swing when the branch above me snapped and I went falling to the ground on my back. I instantly brought my feet up to block the branch from landing on top of me. I suspect that if I was in this situation (besides not relying on my body weight to stop the barrel), I probably would have grabbed onto the second rope at the top of the pulley once the barrel broke. Although I suspect that due to the momentum you would either smash into the pulley or keep flying past it into the air if this was done in real life.
@kiritotheabridgedgod4178
Жыл бұрын
If you aren't sure if the barrel has hit the ground or not, you wouldn't grab the second rope, grabbing a moving rope under load is a good way deglove your fingers. If you are unaware of what degloving is, it's where the flesh on your fingers/hand gets removed down to the bone. It's the main reason why mechanics and engineers usually remove any jewelry on their hands, wrists or loose hanging jewelry on their necks whilst working near machinery.
@plopsmcgee9672
Жыл бұрын
@@kiritotheabridgedgod4178 My dude, if you are yanked 6 stories up in the air then you should already have been looking for better things to grab onto than the rope that pulled you there in the first place. So when that rope suddenly stops supporting your weight, you don't need much time to realize you should also grab the rope on the other side before it's too late. You don't even need to know about the barrel on the bottom. And yes, I know what degloving is.
@kiritotheabridgedgod4178
Жыл бұрын
@@plopsmcgee9672 I mean fair, but surely, you grab onto the pully system which is bolted to the floor, instead of the rope. Much higher chance of having intact hands.
