This song should be dedicated to the memory of Peter Tork (1942-2019). I thought of him with this version of this song because through his music he wanted a better world. And this song really reminds me of his mission. As I was celebrating his third year of his passing, I found the original song and this version. I fell in love with this group because this song gave me comfort. Thank you guys for recording both versions.🙂❤️

I can't stop listening to this, thank you for the New Year gift. And I must respectfully disagree with Shem Doupe as I LOVED the BLM chant at the end. A wonderful addition to a moving song, and thank you! May 2021 bring healing to all.

Honestly this was super disappointing. I was really enjoying it until the end. Turning a song the applies to everyone and message that transcends time and politics into a cheap BLM chant. From art to propaganda. The song states “The same thing that courses through your veins is the same as mine” Then it ends with a focus on race instead of common humanity. What a shame.

The BLM chant was actually a perfect addition to the messaging in this song. Peace to you Shem Doupe!

I can see how you're interpreting the lyrics as a BLM chant. Just as a friendly pushback, is it possible to sing, "every black life matters... every one does," and simply mean what the words mean? Again, I totally understand and respect how the song hit you. It just didn't hit me that way, and I think it's important for us to lift up the oppressed whenever we can. This song seems to me like a good example of that. Grace and peace!

@@jacjac_jac I appreciate the friendly push back. I totally get what you mean and I'm sure that this song was never meant to endorse a movement and that they just meant for the words to mean what the words say. My main feeling was more so that the song - which I love so much - no longer transcends time the way the original does. It is now localized in a point of time and a particular movement with all sorts of baggage and connotations. Plus this is a highly contested idea that most people don't agree with me on, but it isn't just a universally accepted idea that saying "every black life matters" is better than saying "every human life matters" This is an artistic choice that I respect, but I don't personally like. It doesn't ruin the original song for me, but I do wish they would have kept the themes more universal. Thanks again for the respectful comment.
