You do get the smallest bit of non-environmental storytelling from the caption our character writes under the photo of the room when you complete a level, and she says something different depending on the room you took the photo of. You might have missed that she writes "Game nights just got more convenient!" if you took the photo in the dining room. Her roommates are not just dorks, they're also her DnD group!

Mentioning the empty space in the new apartment as being a sign of hope is a very sweet and hopeful sentiment, but I also think there is a little bit of bittersweetness to that as well. While there is a lot of promise, the empty space can also indicate a level of loneliness. One thing about living on your own is a feeling of loneliness and I can say that having no one else to consider in my house can lead to a lot of apathy for he space in general. It's still a positive change of course, she is clearly doing better and the open freedom can be very refreshing and what she probably needed. It's sort of symbolic how that freedom and positive change can open that space and allow her to add someone new. And of course, Piggy is the best.

i remember getting this game kind of as a joke because i actually love cleaning irl and thought “hey why don’t i also do what i love but in video game format?” didn’t expect to get so invested in the game’s unspoken plot and be able to feel and understand so many subtle things just from putting away objects. i even got a little teary-eyed when i reached the sweet ending gosh, this game makes me so sappy. it’s great

Fun fact when I first played this game I skipped all of the photo descriptions, so I had no idea the main character's partner was moving in. Kinda stupid of me I know, but it just goes to show you how well they go together, when I thought it could all belong to the same person.

I think Unpacking was the game that truly proved me the innovation and fresh perspectives on the indie-side. Unpacking really got me to live along with the main character, feeling the highs and the lows. Remembering my own path to being a father of two and having been with my wife for almost 20 years now. It got me to really think about possessions and their relationships to each other mirroring the people living there in a new light.

Not interested in playing teh game myself but appreciate these detailed deductions on the life of the protagonist from placing her stuff around the new living spaces she travels around. Enviromental storytelling is IMO the most satisfying kind to get information, when you put together the pieces and get your answer on what's going on.

I had played this game during the pandemic days, and I never once thought the story behind each levels. I thought that it's just a simple, relaxing game with cute pixel-type visuals. Now, after watching this, I would never see this game the way ever again. I think it's time for me to play the game again.

This game is truly a masterpiece. It tells so much only with objects, and they're so much details that fit the story. Like when she come back to her parents' house after "the boyfriend", we see she pins photos, and the one with her ex and her, the pin is on the face on her ex... Like it wasn't obvious enough that this relationship ended badly ^^' (9:30)

A lowkey thing I do, when I go to ppls houses, is look in their kitchen.... They'll sometimes ask "oh you're hungry"?? No...I'm just looking in their fridge, in their cabinets and drawers...seeing what kinda food they like to eat, and cook...the products they like to buy...the type of dishes they tend to cook... So on and so forth...

The partner at the end who seems to work in the film industry, from what you said, I think they might work in makeup, since they have a model of a monster so maybe SFX and you said they had more makeup and fashion. It's also something you can get awards for and quite artsy and creative, to match well with our character

This video perfectly captures the essence of what makes Unpacking such a unique and captivating game. The way the game uses environmental storytelling to reveal the life and experiences of its protagonist is truly brilliant. From the carefully curated objects to the intricate level design, everything about Unpacking feels intentional and purposeful.

during this video I looked around my room to see what I could see about myself. There are many unfinished projects around my cluttered, messy room with things piled on top of crumbs and debris. There is a pathway cleared from my bed to my computer desk, who's screen sits on the windowsill and blocks the view of outside, along side fake foam and porceline rocks and monsters I made, bought, and was given.. There are quilts glued to the walls, and an eclectic few paintings on my wall, some of them mine, some of them others. In one space there is a failed improvised frame for one of my paintings on paper. Some of the things on my walls are furry drawings I downloaded from the internet and had printed on sheet metal. There is a green full fursuit I made myself in my closet, along with boxes of blue fur. There are a few instruments, including an incomplete crafted one from cardboard, rubberbands, and jig-sawcut wood, and my desk is littered with notes. I have no bedframe, just a mattress, and two peeled apart mattresses tucked up vertically on the wall next to my sleeping one which has no sheets. In two high corners are vr base stations. There is an unused shelf high above my desk, and the remnants of doublesided goopy tape that was used to hold sound-foam up on the walls. I have four sets of spare keys, but had zero keys for the last week. Fake breasts lay on my bathroom floor, a small empty bottle of lube in the clutter next to my mattress, and a sex toy I haven't used in months is in my closet. A movie theater polo shirt is on the floor behind the metal barstool I'm sitting at my broken heigh-adjusting desk currently. As ugly I feel about the picture of myself I just painted, I think that is as exact of an idea of me as I could ever give anyone. I feel this shows how I have not taken advantage of my potential.
