The Gambia is small but poor and corrupt. Travel around the country and see it is more villages and less cities. I am from Banjul but when I traveled to few areas e.g NBR, WCR and CRR and I was shocked. I said it is enough either I leave the Gambia or die. I cannot believe this where I called home.

Debate in wollof & Mandinka for the people to understand this conversation & bring the people on board.
@Youtuber551.

But if they speak in wollof and Mandinka, what about the Jola, fula, manjago, aku, serahule, sererr and balanta ?? In as much as we hate it, English is our best option as it stands. Until we come up with a universal language that we'll all unilaterally speak in this country.
@ElimanGibba

@@KZitemr551. I am advocating for speaking the 2 majority languages in Gambia ( I am Jola & this is purely about communications to reach the majority of people ) & you cannot tell me that diminishes the other local languages. I know most Jola, Fula etc are multi lingual . I proposed that because the panelists spoke in both Wollof & Mandinka in some instances. Also ,I did suggest/recommend WE get out of this #whataboutism, it is awful & not progressive. Are you suggesting if Africans were to choose to read ,write & communicate in one local language Jola ,Mandinka & Wollof would have stand a chance ? Come on man ! The media in Gambia has to put emphasis on interviewing ,debating etc in our local languages… me personally,I don’t care which language as long as it is African .
@ElimanGibba
3 жыл бұрын
@@KZitemr551. it is impossible to fit in all the languages. I sincerely doubt that is what you are suggesting & besides most Africans are multi lingual & I hope we can go pass the #WhatAboutism , it will never move us forward .I am Jola ,immigrated to the US 31 years ago & lost all but Wolof & Mandinka because i have friends in the west coast i talk on a fairly good amount of time & have never thought less of my tribal language. The panelists injected Mandinka & Wollof ,and sir if you think about it Gambia ( i stand corrected if wrong ) has a very low literacy rate , why not try something as simple as talking to our folks so they can get educated/enlightened/ conscious & perhaps engender their participation to the process. I don’t hate English . I just don’t think it works for us in all cases ,eg Law ( i use to interpret for a senior court in the NW & QUIT ) Politics that contain policies that directly impact the life’s of our people. I did go further to tell you if one /two /three languages were to be chosen/elected for official languages in Africa ,perhaps Fulani would come closest than Mandinka not to mention Wollof. I am advocating for an African Media forum where panelists can talk directly to the masses . To be fair I HATE FOLKS USING BIG ENGLISH LANGUAGE words …. IT IS A SHOW OFF & NOT an indication of knowledge or one being highly educated . EDUCATED PEOPLE CAN BE FOOLS ,YOU KNOW ? The simpler the better . Hope that makes sense . Love & Peace.

So true one of biggest mistake is not having a national language. In Kenya, everyone speaks Swahili, in Sierra Leone everyone speaks krio, in Senegal everyone speaks wolof. But in the gambia you can meet two people who speak 3 different languages each and still not understand it other.
