It's crazy to think Dodge released the Viper in direct competition with the Corvette yet you see Corvettes all the time and seeing a Viper on the street is like seeing a unicorn. I delivered parts for Dodge for a few years and there was an ACR in the showroom. Lots of attention but it sat there for what seemed like forever.

@@bananathegrea8700living in Southern California my whole life you see all types of cars but honestly I rarely see these things. Take that guy near you out of the equation and I'm sure that eliminates you seeing them regularly as well. Such a shame for an amazing drivers car.

The Viper has always been far more expensive than the Vette and much more analog. On top of that is the fact that the Viper was only ever available in a six speed manual, with no traction control (until 2013). If the only Vette that existed was a $100k+ hardened Z06 with a 6spd only, you would not see many Vettes anymore either.

@@SpecMDriven I've seen a ton of Z06 across the years and even the six figure ones. The Viper is a unicorn and it shouldn't be. For a Big 3 production car I'd love to see these things more often. I get they weren't as driver friendly as the Vette but still it's been a solid 5yrs since I've seen one on the street. And guranteed it wasn't an ACR. Great channel BTW. Always top tier production and plenty of info in a compact enough time to watch.

The viper is rare because people can't drive stick & it's not a great daily driver. Corvettes have more in common with mustangs or camaros while the viper is more like a supercar.

The car that did the attempt did have power upgrades fyi, it was tuned. The biggest weak link was definitely the kumhos though, they just couldn’t quite survive a hero lap. Car is definitely capable of a sub 7 with factory support though and a better tire like a modern cup2r.

In order to break the record, does the car have to be in production at the time of the record, or can it be a car that previously was in production but now discontinued. I'm know there are plenty of folks with half a million to spare that want a manual American car to beat the electric Porche.

no it does not have to be in production. but it has to be bone stock.
