For me, it never was the money I was worry about, I didn't want to worry about anything, not my family or friends, I simply wanted to be the best at everything in combat sport. And I tried, but after receiving a concussion from harder sparring I was very use to I didn't realize that the previous concussion's I had, from when I was much younger, only made this concussion far worse then the last. It involved headache, tingling, sensitive to light more then usual, pain in the nerves, almost every nerve, and some balance problems. The worst part was, I didn't get to debut in any amateur fights. It broke my heart realizing that I spent the better part of a year, studying everything my dojo had to offer me to be the best at everything; from boxing, kick boxing, mma, jujitsu, and muy thai, and I couldn't showcase why I was gonna be great at everything! Now I've accepted where i'm at, still recovering from my concussion, still reaping the consequence I put myself through, and yet I would do it all over again because it made me into a better person, an adult who finally learn to value the life I have, because I only got one. So nowadays, I went back to my previous passion, writing and film making, and I'm also gonna be more of a teacher when I go back to my dojo but also still gonna learn new martial arts because I love it too much to just give it up. An insightful video that reminds me of the what if's, but also reminds me I can't go back to who I want to be, only to endure and push forward to who I am now

At the end i just lost, but even if you try hard, you have to know that no every master, school or team mates are the same, that have or had a pro champion, that truly affects the outcome, and your economy as well, or even the leadership of your federation might be corrupt and you just dont make it and wasted a bunch of time in doing in the long run. This is an excellent video essay on the harsh reality of combat sports. I no longer compete; I only box to stay fit and for the love of the sport.

Very good video. Fighters are humans too..... they’re badass because they learn to accept and control their emotions.

Fighting is not a team sport so when crap goes wrong it is all your fault and you've only got your self to blame.

Idk if I want to be a fighter or I just love violence but I’ve always loved fighting even when I’ve got my ass whooped it’s just the nature of people and it brings me excitement and even if I turn out to be shit I would still do it as a career if it still brings me excitement when I’m older

i have to agree wity you on this one. Most UFC fighters fight 3 to 4 times a year at best. With 10 to 20 grand per figjt in revenue minus the expenditures....not much left

There are other more dangerous careers. In fact, fighting isnt even in the top 10 most dangerous sports. People go on about CTE and yeah it sucks but there are many, many non sporting professions with higher injury and higher death rates by miles.

I agree with everything except with the starting young thing. Fighting is one of the most physical sport if not the one that demands more of your physicality, so if you are a stronger, faster and more athletic than average you can be good in fighting. It is not like soccer, you can't be a professional soccer player if you started at 20, you need to atleast start at 5 years old.

I have friends that want to be fighters, and yeah they’re all cracked 😂 most of them were abandoned by family or orphaned in other ways or come from the middle of nowhere in Asia or have certain life experiences that makes them hyper aggressive and sports, particularly combat sports allows them to properly vent they aggression, anger, and frustration of life. It’s definitely a certain personality type and dogged obsession you have to have. Like all sport people like myself have that, but in combat sports it’s a level above that because you’re actually volunteering for bodily harm and potential life threatening injuries. This career path, it’s only for a few people. So think long and hard before you pursue
