Love the 124 with full tang and pinned scales, great heft to it. The only complaint from me is the handles are just a tad squared making it a bit uncomfortable...I don't have huge mitts. But, not bad enough for me to ever sell it! You can still find them for $108, which is a great value with the quality that goes into that knife! Thanks for video!

............Mr. Cabotbluegill............I would personally like to thank you for taking time from your day to share your knowledge with me. Your presentation is easy going and relaxing to watch. I too am a long time Buck knife fan but I guess I was unaware of the large size of the 124 until this informative video....I may have to add that one to my collection.........I subbed to your channel after reading some of the hateful comments and criticism your hard work attracts. I encourage you to continue making your informative videos. Some of my favorite youtube presenters also have busy highway noise in the background, as well as air traffic and even a nearby helicopter base.............Unfortunately we cannot all live in pristine wilderness but some of us just have to do the best we can do with what we have...........My hat is off to you, Sir....

Very handsome blade! I've always liked the look of the 124, my neighbor used to have one he bought when he was studying to be a park ranger. carried it for years, but I always liked my 119 a bit more. Something about the nimble feel and phenolic handle. Great video and great knife!

Thanks for reviewing the Buck Frontiersman 124. I have this knife, its a very good and beautiful knife. But I would not buy it again. It is a heavy knife, but not a good chopper. Too much weight in the handle, less in the blade. If I carry a heavy knife with me, it should be a good chopper. For me the Cudeman 107 bowie-knife , from Spain, works far better, for half the price ! Cudeman makes very good price-quality knives, check it out.

Well thankfully you showed the tea, I was just thinking "what about the tea!". Haha. I have never bought a Buck knife, but apparently, my Chinese made knife I got from my NRA subscription was a Buck knife. The lock broke and I had to toss it, but, I loved that knife. For a pocket knife, it was heavy and sharp. I'm going to look into a good knife like the 124 for carrying around the yard. It would be great in the garden or hiking and for all I do around the house outdoors. I get tired of pulling out my knife, opening the blade, doing the job and storing it again.

@Joe Pitt because a survival knife should be able to do the job of a hachet and a saw to the extent that you would need those tools in a survival situation. Shelter, fire, firewood, cordage and food should all should be able to be processed by a proper survival knife because they idea is that you're lost in the wilderness without necessarily having brought your tool shed with you. Duh.

Bucks are nice, for the price though and for rough use I generally go for a ka-bar. The 5in are normally around 50 and the 7in 70ish sometimes less. Ive had a buck break on me doing nothing heavy duty. The Ka-bar I have hasnt broken yet and I abused the shit outta it. Its a good all around knife. Got my eyes on the becker bk7 and the schrade43 to play with in the next year. Im not sure if any of the above are made 100% in the USA anymore, Buck used to I think.

cabotbluegill Not really, I paid to have it sent and I was told there warranty wasn't gonna cover the damage. It broke pretty close to the handle. I was told for 20$ they would replace the blade(another 7$ and they would sharpen and hone it) and that combined with shipping was pretty much a new knife so I decided to go buy another knife. The girl I talked to on the phone and emailed was nice enough, but we apparently disagreed on what proper use of the knife is. I have no idea how they can tell that from the knife it was pretty much new except for being broken. Id only used it a couple times. I was feathering mostly dry maple and it snapped. I forget the model, but it was the shorter fat bladed knife with a gut hook. 35$new.

Beating a knife with a club says nothing about a knife, and a lot about the person who owns the knife. They make hatchets and axes to do that work, and only someone who learned everything he "know" from backyard KZitem "experts" would ever do that kind of batoning with a knife. It's a silly, as amateurish, as foolish, as it gets. It's one thing to turn small pieces of wood into still smaller pieces of wood by TAPPING pn a knife, though this is not necessary, either. But beating a knife with a club like that means you know nothing about the wilderness, nothing about being a woodsman, nothing about knives, and nothing whatsoever about how to treat your tools, or your best friend.
