very cool! I’m an engineering major, but calc 3 wasn’t actually necessary for my degree. I use concept from it (partials, jacobians, etc) all the time though so I look forward to these refreshers

In the first example why can we just say y is a constant but z is a functio n of x?

Because he wants the partial derivative of z with respect to x

Because z is taken to be f(x,y), but y is not considered linked to x (they are independent).

in the e^z example, does he take x as a "function" for because it's the variable he's partial differentiating with respect to? and if so, does the same logic apply for when he takes the partial derivative with respect to y?
