The Camden Town Murder Mystery
News of the Times Episode 324 | 1907
1907 Camden Town London and upon returning home from his night shift on the train, Mr Shaw comes home to discover his girlfriend, pretty flirtatious Emily Dimmock brutally slain, half naked in bed. An effort seems to have been made to stage a robbery, but police are unconvinced. The severity of the crime, whilst Emily was sleeping, would seem to indicate a personal grudge.
Scotland Yard are brought in and, working with the slenderest of clues, they trace a suspect through a postcard that had been sent to her by a local artist - Edwardian England’s version of a graphic designer.
The case grips all the paper headlines for weeks. An ex girlfriend comes forward and tearfully condemns the yard’s primary person of interest. The case grows in fervour with the intelligence that famous defence lawyer Marshal Hall will be defending the suspect and that the judge of the court case is famed for his propensity of finding guilt.
We also investigate the tie of famed ripper suspect, Walter Sickert and his ties to the case.
We take a look at the case that resounded across the tabloids, the Camden Town murder mystery, in today’s episode of Sinister Saturdays.
Hosted by Robin Coles.
