I spoke to a Liberal MP this past April - said to him with a straight face that I'm better off illegally immigrating to the US than living in this shithole they've turned Canada into. This is the result of 10 years of not investing in economic growth and just jumping on every humanitarian/social issue.

Then everybody's standard of living is now the same, all in poverty! You will be left with the super wealthy running the joint and all the serfs being controlled by the same group.

Yet productivity and the standard of living are falling in Canada. Tent cities are popping up in all major cities and even some of the regional cities now. Your solution is to follow the same path with massive government participation in the economy. The consequences and even worse result will be the further unaffordability of living in Canada. Canada lives next door to a country that, despite all its warts and the rhetoric you hear sometimes about how bad it is, is such an easy fit for Canadians. It’s such a great option to have. I am an American who lived in TGWN for several years and my wife is a Canadian (who I met in the U.S.). When we go back & forth there is almost no difference between here in the U.S. and the neighborhood her parents live in. The U.S. gives you lower taxes and better healthcare options. If y'all in the GWN think it is any better Due South (awesome TV series, BTW), just wait 'til you get here. If the taxes don't screw you, then the high cost of living combined with the various social ills will do you in. You can most certainly take that to the bank (no wait, our banks are mysteriously imploding, so maybe you can't...). The sitch is marginally better in The Land Down Under, but only if you set the high cost of housing aside. Ditto for Kiwi Country. And forget about crossing the pond for a better life in Jolly Old England--there the harried middle have to increasingly make painful choices between food and metered fuel, rent or school fees for the kids, and healthcare (which is pretty bad, trust me--and that's only if you are lucky enough to get it) or basic necessities. Yep, it's tough all over. And the global income-real estate arbitrage trade has been totally played out. Sorry to report this, but at my work site i get requests or should i say beggers looking for work. Some are foreign students who cant afford to eat or even take a bus ticket. Yesterday, i had foreign student from south America country come up and litterally begged for me to give a temp job so he can earn his ticket back to brazil. He couldn't even speak proper english. I had to use the google translate to understand what he was saying. Ive been in Canada for the past 20+ years and have not seen this type of desperation. Downtown TO has so many homeless encampments. All this within a couple of years. Im sure one can even see these from the CN tower. A lot of home building activity hasnt taken off or have been stalled prematurely. My neighbors kids who are good in school are considering leaving Canada for better education and even life elsewhere. I love being a Canadian and i always defended our broad and inclusive open society which had a potential for hard working immigrants to come and build the nation. All this negative news and views have reached my country of birth and i find it hard to defend my country Canada about its policies and politics. They wonder why Canada being so developed and being a rich country has totally retarded policies regarding immigration, healthcare and use of natural resources. Its all most like Canadians should not be ambitious and dare not overreach. A lot of my colleagues at work and in neighborhood where i live have developed a anti- immigrant mentality. And that too being immigrants themselves just a generation or 2 ago. I can feel that immigration of merited individuals who want to pursue a prospective career and rewarding.life of hard work, will reduce drastically. That may make the anti immigrant bunch happy but Canada as a whole wont get anything done that is good. We need to get past this phase. And this failing leaders who we keep electing. Leaders who have been in power by dividing the population for vote bank purposes. Thats how they have been keeping their jobs. Its sad. I guess we need to see the worst before we see anything thats slightly better. I do sincerely hope my opinion wont get flagged. But i am sure a lot of first generation immigrants from not so developed world who came, settled here and consider themselves the hardworking backbone of Canada feel the same.
