I do kinda miss the days of wacky arcade style sports games. It feels like so many now just go for absolute realism.

Those trackballs would have busted pretty bad on those cabinets, shame this never came out on any consoles in the 90s. I feel like the Saturn could have handled it if they released a controller with a trackball for the game.

It looks okay, but the track ball would be kinda a pain to play with on this. Remember the World Series Baseball with the spring controllers? You had a sideways mounted joystick that you would pull back to bat and you had to time the pitch and let go of the joystick to hit. The pitching was similar but it was in a normal joystick position but would self center. You had no control of the players after that except for some simple button commands.

Another great video. I feel like MIDWAY's MLB SLUGFEST on PS2 is everything this game was trying to be. Also, Baseball Games in the arcade just dont seem to EVER work. As good as Baseball Stars 2 is, it still wasn't an ARCADE SMASH. my opinion

Fortunately, we got an even more over-the-top baseball game series called Super Ultra Baseball in Japan and Baseball Simulator 1.000 Stateside. I think we only got the NES game and the first SNES game, but they were wild; you could throw flaming baseballs, hit them so hard it'd slam the outfielders into the backboard (whatever that wall that separates the fans from the game is called), and tons of other things. Easily my favorite baseball games, even if I still don't have the patience to play through 9 innings.

Good thing it never came out because it looks bad. NBA jam and NFL blitz and even nhl open ice 2 on 2 works fine for NBA jam style games. This does not.

I recently picked up frank thomas big hurt baseball by acclaim for the Genesis. Since they also did the nba jam port I would argue big hurt is the “spiritual port” to this unreleased game. And, like the arcade version, the genesis version is pretty bad too.

Imagine my shock when I finally get back on KZitem all these years later and see you have 50,000 subs now. CONGRATULATIONS! I KNEW YOU OULD DO IT!!!!

@@FridayNightArcade it was horrible but more money than I've ever seen in my life. So glad you're still around and doing amazing. My absolute favourite gaming channel (even if you're unfairly biased against SQ IV, which was a great game, because you love part 3 so much. Admittedly, 3 was the best one). But I can forgive you and still love every video you make

Wow - well at least the pay was good and I'm glad you didn't get hurt. Working in a mine can be so dangerous. Haha I'll always be biased for SQ3, but I should have worded my review of IV a bit differently. Even a flawed Space Quest game is still wayyyyy better than most other games but I don't think I articulated that well enough. Also thank you so much for the kind words, means a lot.

Never liked trackballs even when they were working properly but you always knew any of the ones you tried at the arcade were going to be busted from knuckleheads beating the crap out of them. So that would have been a hard sell for me if this had come out. Like you said too, you wouldn't know how long an inning was going to last, it's not just cutting into the operator's profits but it'd turn into a slog for the players if they weren't committed to take the time to stand there and get through it all. Baseball just doesn't lend itself well to trying to mimic the intensity level they achieved with NBA Jam.

I know thia video is 2 years old but i do have an update regarding this. So ive heard that Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield Il. Might have this game in their vault. Apparently it was displayed during a recent T-20 tournament and in fully working condition. If it gets released to the public, ill come back and update this again.

@@FridayNightArcade Did you really have to give me 2003 flashbacks by constantly showing the Marlins against the Cubs, though? (Seriously, Steve Bartman should have been in the Cubs' 2016 victory parade; that dude didn't deserve a thing that was heaped upon him.)

@@zooropa04 No I hate that we even know his name. There are so many other reasons that team lost. And then in 2004 they couldn't win with Wood/Prior/Zambrano/Clement/MADDUX... but we got 'em in 2016. And now we'll never win again and they're just gonna trade everybody and .... and.... ugh... I need a drink now.

@@FridayNightArcade I feel like I have no right to complain after 2016, but yeah, I remember the moments following the Incident, when Alex Gonzalez booted an easy ground ball then Dusty Baker left Mark Prior in waaaaaay past his expiration date. AND THEN we had Wood on the mound in Game 7. He even hit a two-run home run himself! And yet they still lost. Sigh, yes, at least 2016 was magical. Now I have to deal with new Cubs fans who have no idea how to handle a collapse in the proper, fatalistic way....

@@FridayNightArcade that is objectively true. But Hawk was in the play-by-play role, which makes being a homer specifically obnoxious and unprofessional. Santo was the Color commentator.. which makes being homer a bit less of a crime against humanity. Haha.
