The term canon is used as a 'yardstick' or 'measure'. Sure, there are plenty of canonical composers who are over-represented, but to do away with them, and the canon in its entirety would be to do away with how we measure and determine, collectively, what composers and their works should be advocated for above others. Yes, we need to revisit what we argue as being 'objectively' better, but to not uphold examples of what we think is best representative of classical music is dangerous and destructive to the art form....

I think it is really a shame you don't think the ancient European white male patriarchs of music weren't wrong, when they excluded non-white males and women from the musical canon.
