I grew up on classic rock, heavy metal, hair metal, and glam metal. I loved Skid Row. Their first two albums--FRICKIN AWESOME. Saw them several times live between 1989-1995. I met the band in 1992 at a bar in Louisville, KY after their concert--Pantera opened. I just ordered Snake's Kramer today from Sweetwater to honor my love for the band.

Thanks for this Lee. In this run of interviews supporting the sig guitar, Snake comes across as such a genuine and nice guy. Saw Skid Row not long before lockdown kicked in. Damn good gig and a reminder of the good old days. It's interesting that in the eyes of the the hip, fashion driven media, there was some big cliff edge in musical taste but as I recall, the new bands, like Nirvana, were absorbed into the culture and everything carried on, within the rock sub-culture. The change seemed much mnore gradual to me and was mostly driven by the music business trying to make profits out of the new big thing and ditching the old thing. Of course, that's how the media and music business work.

I totally agree with this. I've been saying this for a long time. My recollection of the early 90s was a period of time when Rock fans cranked out Skid Row and Metallica and GnR, at the same time as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and The Black Crowes. The music biz stories say that 80s bands were dropped overnight, but it didn't feel like that on the ground.

I so remember seeing "Peice of me" video first being o tv and thinking how much I loved his guitar back then. I ended up buying a 1990 Kramer Nightswan ( which I still have), and recently a couple days ago received Dave Sabo's signature Kramer and was blown away, absolutely slamming guitar! I sold my special edition Gibson Les Paul studio alpine white with Ebony finger board 2010 model to get my Sabo model. That was a hard decision, but between my Nightswan and Hamer Californian I love that era of guitars, I still have my 2004 Zakk Wylde Epiphone Les Paul so it's all good lol. I feel a bit like Lee wasn't a Skid Row fan and so, with limited reference, has positioned Snake as a Hair metal shredder and focussed the conversation on the demise of the Shred guitar movement, which Snake is then left awkwardly having to defend. I don't think anyone would have that conversation with Slash. Skid Row were a cut above other bands of that period, the riffs are insanely good, Sebastian was a jaw dropping vocalist, the songs were classics. There is some speculation that if Appetite had never dropped then 'Slave to the the Grind' would have been the Hard-Rock album of the 80's.
@msmoniz
3 жыл бұрын
Agree with everything you said except for the fact Slave To The Grind was released in 1991 making it probably the best Hard Rock album of the 90's that holds its own with AIC Facelift, Dirt or Soundgarden Badmoterfinger. It showed Skid Row was more a melodic hard rock band than a hair metal shred band.

To answer your questions, he wasn't kicked out. It was a mutual split. There's no bad blood because Jon and Snake made a pact on whoever made it big first, they'll help the other get signed. It happened to be Job helping out Snake in this case. They're still great friends today.
