In another universe, Schneider is a Stanley Cup and Vezina winner. He was basically one of the elite goalies in his prime, but just didn’t have the opportunity to lead a team, between competing with Lou in Vancouver and playing on a lot of poor Devils teams

@@klompsauce Same situation as Saros in Nashville, except Predators usually make playoffs; Devils didn't in Schneider's time. It was sadly brief and hidden in Shero's ineptitude to get him any goal support, but Schneider was absolutely elite.

@@closethockeyfan5284I wouldn’t say playing on the devils rode him into the ground , he just never got a good team . His age rode him into the ground , he had bad hips . The Canucks losing both Schneider and Luongo in short order was one of those times in franchise history where you really wondered about the competence of management. I'm just glad that since that troubled time that the professional management of this team has turned things around and everything has proceeded smoothly...

Schneids had a weird career with the Devils. He was really good when the team around him sucked and really bad when the team had some potential. If not for Kinkaid in 2017 the Devils probably only break that playoff drought last season instead. He probably was never fully healthy in those later years though so cant blame him too much.

On the other side of that trade, THG, when Lou Lamoriello got the crowd on Gary Bettman's side at the 2013 draft by announcing that trade, the months after that moment led to the commentary that the Devils finally had their new Marty Brodeur. It was supposed to be a very easy transition and in that first year, the load was pretty evenly split. But Lou, despite this trade, began to take on aging free agents, Parise was gone, Kovalchuk was gone - and there was just no way Cory was going to thrive here. So as sad as it was for Canucks' fans to have lost him, the timing on the other end was epically and equally as bad. By the 2017-18 season, even though it was Taylor Hall's MVP season, the writing was on the wall. Lou was gone. And it just seemed cruel how it all came crumbling down for Cory. I never disliked him - but never warmed up to him. But Devils fans expected, but got nothing close to, Marty Brodeur in Cory. And that may have been the most unfair aspect to his coming here to New Jersey of them all.

I remember the 2012 1st round, Kings vs Canucks. The Kings came out pumped and Luongo couldn't stop a beach ball in Gms. 1 & 2. Schneider took over and kept it from being a sweep. He was definitely a worthy opponent.

Starting Schneider in game 6 or 7 or whatever would NOT have made a difference in that final. A thin defence and a neutralized offence are what lost them the cup. Also, Luongo and Schneider both wouldve stayed longer or maybe even retired as Canucks if management hadn't screwed them up.
