Someone please rewind time....wholesome music and innocence like this doesn't exist anymore. So many people from this time miss it desperately and others like me who weren't born till the early 90s wish they could have been around for this...

I grew up in Downey , California and went to the same high school as the Carpenters although it was more than 10 years later. Everyone in town would drive by the Carpenters house at Christmas time because they always had great decorations. I used to see Richard Carpenter at the grocery store!

It's amazing how spot on, resonant, and crystal clear her voice was. And no need of an electronic device to make her sound good. Very few singers at any time in American history can be put on a pedestal with her. No One.

Feeling nostalgic now. How I miss my parents at Christmas. Grandma, my aunts and uncles. I couldnt tell you more than ten gifts I ever got, but I can tell you there was a lot of love. 1977 was our first Christmas after dad past away. I was 14. That is too young to live the rest of my life without one of the greatest men on earth. I am the youngest of 6. Everyone talking on here about going back in time to the Carpenters, but I would spend every second with my parents, if only I could!

This is so cool. I wish they'd release the Carpenters' t.v. specials on DVD. Had Karen recovered from AN, I can only imagine what she'd be doing today. Based on interviews and articles, I can totally imagine her doing a Broadway show or movies or something along those lines. My understanding is that she was quite a good actress/comedienne, in addition to her unparalleled musicianship. Ah, we can dream.

My goodness thanks for this upload. You know, I miss Frank Sinatra, I miss Stevie Ray, I miss Ella, I miss John Lennon- but somehow the one person that will still catch me off guard and make me tear up a bit: Karen. Dang, 25 years later and it still sucks every bit as bad.

From the days when the world was a safer place to live. Such a beautiful girl, so tragic. Why oh why can't we be like this again? Thank you so much for letting us all enjoy this once more, it brought tears to my eyes.

I adore this and I adore the Carpenters, particularly Karen. She had such a beautifully velvet voice like no other and such a gorgeous personality. Great performer too. I do have to admit though, even though Karen looks frail here, I can't help but compare how she looks here to how she looks in the 1978 special.... Here, Karen still has some of the genuine sparkle in her eyes and look of youth. But by '78, that sparkle was fading and she started to look so so thin and tired. Truly tragic RIP x

With acting lessons, Karen Carpenter could have become a good actress. It is such a shame that she never expanded her creative ''wings'' by attempting to start a movie career. She demonstrated comedic potential in some of the Carpenters' TV specials.

If Karen was still alive, all of these specials would have been on DVD by now. Love Richard for being amazing musician, but he has been a real stick in the mud in regards to preserving their visual legacy. He has no idea how much the pubic longs for this part of their history. Like I said, Karen would have insisted...

As we an see here, visually Karen couldn't have been more of the All American girl. I think because of her mother, she always felt bad about appearance, never thought she was beautiful and so on, all of which had little to do with reality. She looked as perfect as she sounded and in performance she exuded a sense of well-being, sensitive feeling and rich mood that simply can't be learned and which just is. She remains such a loss to our world.

@sraphael Agreed. There is a 180 degree difference in Karen's appearance and weight between '77 and '78. She was very thin here, but still had a womanly shape. Not to mention that she was still playing softball and doing active things in '77. By '78, so far as I know, she was doing none of that, and I don't even think that she could drum anymore.
