"(They Long to Be) Close to You" was The Carpenters breakthrough hit in 1970. I remember hearing it on the radio when I was a kid. I really liked the opening piano parts. Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote the song in the early sixties. They wrote dozens of memorable songs back then. Burt Bacharach passed away last year. The other guy, the guy playing keyboard, is Karen's older brother Richard. He wrote some of their biggest hits including "Top of the World" and "Yesterday Once More". Also check out "Rainy Days and Mondays", "Superstar", and "We've Only Just Begun".

Hi Sheray! I continue to love watching your journey down the Carpenters path. That part you love is called the “Wah wahs” and it’s magic. You mentioned not knowing they did it live. On KZitem there are a number of full length Carpenters concerts. A couple of my favorites are Budokan in Japan and Talk of the Town in the UK. Search these names, you’ll see them. Obviously you would hear songs you haven’t directly reacted to yet, maybe do it as a concert reaction?? They run about an hour or so. Of course I have to tell you that the next collaboration with Tori and James is Close To You. 😃 Tori did do a short video cover of the song but only the one on Instagram has the Wah Wahs. The KZitem version cuts short of it. I would like to again recommend Tori’s most recent cover. The song is “Suddenly” from the 1980 movie Xanadu. Originally sung by Cliff Richard and Olivia Newton-John. This cover is by Dan Wesley and Tori Holub. I know you will love it as I know your taste in music. If you aren’t familiar with the original, I suggest either reacting to it or just watching it in preparation. Have fun with this, it has surprises for your Tori journey. For a fun upbeat cover, have a listen to the great Gwen Guthrie's 80s club version of close to you. The Carpenters were indeed remarkable, especially the blend of Richard and Karen's voices and their complimentary skill sets

Hey, Sheray. I would like you to react to Taylor Dayne and her song SEND ME A LOVER. As well as Sophie B. Hawkins and the catchy DAMN, I WISH I WAS YOUR LOVER. It'll make you dance. And it'll get stuck on your head. Keep going and enjoy the music.
