no one outside of Boston? i don't think that's true at all. There would be a higher likely hood that no one would hear of The Cars if not for Ric. Ric would have invited another bassist had Ben not been there. It probably wouldn't have been as good, but since Ric wrote all the hits, and since people often confuse Ric and Ben singing, I'm pretty sure people outside of Boston would have heard of the Cars.
@luizagocawska2259

@@deccarecords8008 I don't agree. The success of the Cars was thanks to all five members. Ric wrote songs, but arrangement was a group's work. Think about Greg and his multitalents as musician.. Ric never liked live performances and as a solist he wouldn't pull attention as much as with Ben or Elliot on stage. It's enough to compare solo albums of Ric and the Cars any album. I agree, the Cars was founded by Ric and Ben, but Ric needed these talented people to become famous.

@@robbhahn8897- Ric most assuredly had a “problem with giving someone else the spotlight.” I have a feeling you’ll be surprised to learn Ric AND Benjamin CO-Founded The Cars and that Benjamin was CO-Lead Singer. As such, in theory, there was going to be a 50/50 split of whom would have lead vocals on a song. In *Theory* Only did that happen! It was, at best, 60/40, and by the later years of the band, 70/30 - closer to 72/28 really - in favor of Ric. Although, Benjamin sang lead on more songs, more hits, than you probably know. Ric “never had any problem with” *not* giving Benjamin his due. Ric was just fine with everyone thinking Ric sang every one of the songs, despite how distinct the difference between his voice and Benjamin’s voice.
