One of the most famous football clubs in London is West Ham United. In 2016, their famous stadium the Boleyn Ground closed for the final match, however during excavations it was found that there were many remains of a former castle found under the stadium. The Boleyn Ground also known as Upton Park was called this due to it taking the name of Boleyn Castle which was found next to the stadium, and the football club even rented the ground from the castle, which was also known as Green Street Palace. However it's link to History and specifically Tudor History is remarkable.
Boleyn Castle was the site where allegedly Henry VIII visited his second wife Anne Boleyn to court her and to ask for her hand in marriage. Anne refused this a number of times, and said she would only marry Henry when he had divorced his first wife Catherine of Aragon. It's said that at Boleyn Castle Henry visited a number of times, and came to see Anne more than one. It is with this that Green Street Palace became known as Boleyn Castle, and this is how the football ground took its name. It has been disputed whether Anne actually stayed there, however what cannot be denied is the fact it inspired a football club for over a century.
