In 2002 when I was 13 I was in a Foster home in St. Austell in Cornwall, I hit it off with the foster carer as we both loved this song, she had this on vinyl, I remember in the 1990s this song was in a best of the 1960s compilation with Bobby Charlton holding the World Cup. I'm sure Verona Mayhew passed away years ago but through the turbulent times I dearly thank her for being a great foster carer.

I was at City School, Lincoln with John. Seated together with Geoff Sams (who has recently passed away). Around 1961 when we were all 15/16 we went to John's house one afternoon (across from school sports field), John lifted piano lid & played Nut Rocker very professionally. Geoff & I were mesmerised to say the least. It was around the time John bought a Fender Stratocaster which was £155 from his earnings around local pubs at weekends with fellow Casuals Howard Newcombe & Don Fortune (original drummer). Almost lost touch after we left school but then re-connected when I started apprenticeship at Ruston Bucyrus with Howard & Don. Howard's dad was also there & he was their roadie, running them round the pubs in his Transit van. After school John worked in Telephone Managers Office in Lincoln until going professional. Last time I saw John in person was when he got me ticket for a pop concert at Nottingham in 1963. John was one of the most unassuming & laid back people I have ever met. RIP John.

@@oughtonoughton2634 Thanks for your kind words. I was born in 1980, so for obvious reasons I wasn't around to witness the great 60s and 70s music first hand! I'm a serious student of classic Pop music between 1964 and 1976 and my favourite genres are Sunshine Pop, Popsike and Harmony Pop in general. I'm also into 70s singer songwriters like Peter Skellern, Emitt Rhodes and my all time favourite artist, the wonderful Gilbert OSullivan! My father introduced me to the superb music when I was 12 years old in 1992 and started collecting CDs in the mid 90s. I've got a vast and varied collection including 15 000 CDs. I drive my family insane with the amount of CDs in our house but what can I say? I'm a dedicated CD collector! I really hope The Casuals get a reappraisal and a most deserved CD box set including all their recordings issued between 1967 and 1973. I'm Norwegian and there's only one CD store left here in Oslo and that's a crying shame. Thank God for Amazon and the Internet! I'm able to find everything I could ever want there.

Vocally, The Casuals was a vehicle for John Tebbs stellar pipes but unlike say Honeybus and The Bee Gees they weren't exactly a Harmony Pop band. Some members offered additional vocals on some of their tracks but mostly it was Tebb surrounded by strings, oboes, harpsichords and other Baroque Pop laden instruments. Jesamine is one of THE finest songs of the entire 60s. Written by Manston and Gellar( Marty Wilde and Ronnie Scott) it reached no.2 in the UK in late 1968, held off from pole position by Mary Hopkins Those Were The Days.
