you are missing out. technically if you have ever eaten turkey or chicken, tomatoes, squash of any kind, dried legumes and beans, corn ANYTHING...or salad green mixes sold in stores that contain dandelion greens you have had indigenous foods to the Americas. along with many many others foods like peppers (sweet , hot and mild alike), venison, salmon, perch, walleye, trout, bass, cod fish, elk, caribou, moose, Mountain goat/sheep/ram, american varieties of duck, geese, and the list goes on and on..

My guess is that the lack of Native American restaurants has to do with the lack of marketing appeal that indigenous foods currently has. As good as some foods are, without strong marketing appeal, they just won't sell well (think the Seinfeld episode where Seinfeld convinces a guy to convert his restaurant to Pakistani, and the guy's business tanks).
@ZhangtheGreat

@Camryn Jeter I was aware of some of these actions, but I hadn't put two and two together. Thanks for helping make that connection.
@rac3r5

@@ZhangtheGreat To understand why there aren't many, Native American restaurants, you have to look at history. During first contact with Europeans, introduction to new diseases decimated native populations. Then there was war, massacres, germ warfare and bounties on Natives which further decimated their populations. The Gold Rush further contributed to this. Additionally lot of them were moved to reservations away from their traditional hunting grounds and normal food sources. In Canada, a lot of them were moved to reservations and left to starve as food rations were not delivered as promised or food was spoiled. Then until very recently, Native kids were forcibly taken away from their parents and were put in residential schools. The aim of these residential schools which were re-education camps to strip away their native identity and make them more westernized. They were not allowed to speak their own language and partake in their culture. Additionally, a lot of these kids ended up being abused. There was a plethora of Native Culture, identity, food source and way of life that was lost during this period. This is why we don't see many Native American restraunts.

Why must information on different cultural practices be used as an immediate segue into racism? Can we not just enjoy different things? this video is about native american foods being re imagined. Who cares if its 100% authentic, cooked over a fire in a clay pot or whatnot?! It is interesting. its new. In no way did I watch this video and feel threatened by this guys desire to cook something different. So why must some of you be so offended by this? enough so to bring up white supremacy, slavery, skin pigmentation? in what way does that have to do with food? TL;DR - Unnecessary racism in a foodie video rustles my jimmies

If you live in America, you enjoy many Native American recipes daily, and sadly, aren't aware enough to give credit. It's more than just frybread. Cornbread, succotash (a corn and veggies side dish nicknamed "vegetable medley" and sadly now sold in a can), jerky, chili, smoked salmon, guacamole, tacos, salsa, tamales, pozole, tortillas. You may think of this as "just food", but really it's Native American food. Only they really have the right to call it "just food" and we really should give them the credit. If it were a perfect world, Taco Bell would be called "Americanized Native American food".

When someone says "I'm Native American" I usually reply with "Wow cool! Show me your Tribal Card and I'll show you mine" Then it normally goes south from there hahah

Seahawk Fella Still a stupid question. Asking questions like the person is the designated native spokesperson is stupid as hell. And I'm sure you've supported them through the good and bad... Since 2012 or so.
