When one look at China's engineering marvel of Tibetan railway , Konkan is nothing in comparison.

Totally agreed with you. That is an engineering Marvel.

The main challenges of the Tibetan Railway were the Frozen ground and sub-zero temperatures, which made it challenging because the ground expands and contracts due to the frozen moisture present in the soil, which might cause structural damage to bridge piles and buckle the railway tracks if necessary countermeasures had not been taken to keep the ground temperature stable throughout the year. With a lack of oxygen, the manual labourers were not able to work for long hours there. Whereas in the Himalayas and Konkan regions, the ground itself is not strong enough to support any infrastructure; if you start digging tunnels in these places, the whole mountain comes crashing down on your head. The only solutions were either to chop the whole mountain off or rock-bolt and short-crete the whole mountain from peak to bottom; otherwise, there will always be chances of landslides in these places, especially during monsoon seasons. Both the Tibetan and Himalayan/Konkan Railway projects had their own challenges, but the solution for the Tibetan Railway project came out to be cheaper when compared with the solutions for the Himalayan regions, which makes working in Himalayan regions more challenging, time-consuming, and expensive.
