I bought my 2019 just a few months ago with the battery upgrade. I love this car. It's a grey premier, and had 18K on it. it was 27K out the door. That includes a dealer bumper to bumper warranty for 150,000 mile unlimited years (We put 100,000 on a new c300 in 15 years so this should be good for around 20)! Thats a steal!!! the only thing I would change are the seats. they are ok, but in fairness, my other car is a 2020 Lexus 300H, so I'm a little spoiled in the seat department... My car is at 4.1KWH. Edit wife normally drives the lexus to work and back and she now uses the bolt on the weekends, so we only have to fill up the Lexus once every 6 weeks. so that was and added bonus. I was filling my c300 2.5 times a month for work, so that saving plus the mileage I get from work is more than the car payment... Plus, I can charge for free at work. This is a free car.

Many thanks! I also have a 2017 Bolt and just got the battery upgrade. We live in the central valley of California and have never used a destination charger. From here in Modesto I can drive to the coast and back or to Yosemite and back but was close to zero when I got home. The new battery gives some relief. My wife suffered acute range anxiety. What surprises me is the warmer weather here generally gives my car 4.0 miles per kilowatt hour! Temperature makes a BIG difference. My old hot rod friends have sneered at my Bolt for years but now that gas in California is over $5.50 a gallon I get some respect. Too bad the Bolt is being phased out. I love mine.

During the day with plenty of sunlight, I never need to run the heat in the winter especially if I preheat the Bolt before I start my trip. In my previous 2017 Bolt and current 2020 bolt I tend to average 4.2 mi/kwH in the winter and 4.6 mi/kwH on mostly local driving in Northern Virginia and feather the shifter to maximize regenerative braking and staying below 65 mph as much as possible. Great test. What are your thoughts on charging to 100% and letting it drain down below 20%? I keep hearing that charging between 20% and 80% will save the range of the battery longer. On 1/5/2024 I purchased a never driven, brand new 2023 Bolt EUV. I mostly charge at home on a level 1 charging cord that is plugged into a 110 home outlet. How much range do you think that I will lose in 100,000 miles of driving? In your opinion is it safe to regularly fully charge this vehicle?

It's odd that the replacement Bolt EV battery only displayed 62 kWh usable. The 2020+ Bolt EV batteries I've tested have been closer to 65 kWh usable. Also, I'm curious about the conditions. I typically see far better efficiency at 70 mph in average conditions, and with the 2020+ battery, typically about 220 to 230 miles per charge at 70 mph. I'll have my replacement battery soon, so I look forward to seeing more data points.

2 other things that aren’t mentioned is that the DCFC is faster. Not faster peak speeds, but a better curve, especially compared the the “fixed” software update that GM released for the old packs. Also, the output power of the battery pack is better than the old ones throughout the SOC range , meaning it holds a better peak power output on the new pack. With my old 2019 Bolt pack, you could get 160kw peak output from about 100% down to about 92%, the new pack holds that 160kw to about 75%. It holds 150kw down to about 40% whereas the old Bolt pack would only output 150kw to about 70%. The majority of the old battery pack state of charge would only allow for about 135 kw peak power output, whereas the new battery pack will allow 150kw or more output over the majority of the pack SOC. Why does this matter? It makes a substantial difference in acceleration speed. Even with my 2022 Bolt EUV weighing more than the 2019 EV and accelerating a little slower at 100% SOC, it is about as quick as the 2019 EV through most of the pack and even faster than the 2019 EV at lower SOC because the battery outputs more power. Also, back to back testing done on the same day (in the winter) between the stock Michelin Energy Saver tires and Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 winter tires on my 2019 Bolt yielded absolutely zero difference in efficiency. So, some winter tires may cause an increase in rolling resistance, not all of them.

When I post polite critical comments on other Chevy EV videos, they are typically deleted, so hopefully you are not on their payroll. Bought a 2018 new, was denied a buy-back, so we paid Chevy more $ for 2021 to get out of the scary 2017-2019 battery issues. Within WEEKS learned ALL Bolts would need battery replacement. Both the 18 and 21 make the jet engine fan noise whenever charging in hot weather, which is very disconcerting. Have waited 1.5 yrs for new battery and dealer that took our 2018 has, too. Can't do the 90% range cap and not go below 70 mls due to long commute in winter temps. After a bunch of critical posts I recently made, Chevy miraculously has a battery for me now so will get that in 10 days. Today is cold and hearing popcorn/percolator sounds if plugged in - dealer can't say by phone if it's safe to charge, would have to drive an hour there. So, surfing for answers brought me here. Also just learned of a new fire-related recall on Bolts related to seatbelt pretensioner in wrecks igniting the carpet, but dealer doesn't know when part will be avail. We're stuck with the car since resale has tanked. The early adopter tax has not been enjoyable. I believe their Ultium is LG, too, so...

I don't drive with the heat on ever. It works but so does the heated steering wheel and driver's seat. I noticed one night the heat kicked on even tough I didn't turn it on myself. it was 8º F at the time. I'm actually charging my 2017 car tonight (right now) to 100%. I haven't charged past 90% in over a year but I have to drive about 150 miles tomorrow (all highway) so I should have more than enough range. 90% would be fine but I'm curious what the range will be at 100% with this new battery - I had it replaced about a month ago. Overnight temps will be in the upper 30s. Last summer the most I had on the GOM was 288 miles at 90%. I'm hoping to break the 300 mile range this coming summer. I consistently get around 4.1 miles per kWh in cold temps and closer to 5 in warm weather. I drive a lot of highway but keep it between 65 and 68 miles per hour - I'm in no rush because I'm just commuting to work. I'll admit, and maybe it's because the weather hasn't warmed yet in R.I., but I haven't noticed much of a range increase. I'm hoping the summer heat (which my old battery pack loved) will unlock the full potential of this new pack.

I have never reset the trip meter and my Bolt has a lifetime average of 4.5miles/kWh. I drive at speed limit all the time. I would say I drive highway speeds about 1/3 of the time. I'm not sure why he is only getting 3 miles/kWh 🤔 (Note: I live in Phoenix Arizona)

This is a well-done and well-presented range test comparison. However, the title of this video suggests that there will be information that is obscure, that Chevy hasn't really mentioned. A slightly more powerful battery with slightly more range, and a full warranty, has been told by Chevy to all Bolt owners from the outset of the full recall. It's the ONLY thing that's been told to us, other than "you'll be slotted for your replacement according to VIN number, so no need to rush down to the dealership". Why would people be talking about this? Came across to me as click bait-ish.

gm has done nothing to give me a new battery for my 2020 bolt. worst of all i went to trade my bolt in a few days ago for a new EUV and i was told by the dealer they will not pay me trade value for my bolt because of the battery recall. in fact it was $8k less than KBB Trade value. when i purchased this car, gm said the problems were fixed with the battery on the 2020 models and one month later they had another fire. i have only had my bolt for 1.5 years, 20k miles on it, mint condition, $44k original sticker price and now they want to give me less than 20k for trade. and of course they want more than sticker price for the new one. im just so angry that GM screwed me like this.

Ok for an around town car, but a real world range of less than 200 miles with heat in winter makes it marginal for cross country trips. At least GM did the right thing in the end and replaced the questionably safe battery packs with NEW and improved ones, giving you both performance and longevity compensations for all the stress and hassles. Tom’s real world range tests are the only ones *I* would use in selecting an new EV. EPA and Euro tests aren’t realistic.

W/o heater the windows on our 2020 bolt tend to fog up in the winter or cold weather( heated seats and steering wheel help to not turn up heat too high) so you do need to run heat to defog windows, which reduce miles. Were the tires properly inflated to 38 PSI? The 3.0 to 3.1 miles/Kw seem a bit low at 70 MPH. I would get around 3.4-3.5 miles/Kw doing 70 MPH. Weather could also be a factor as I am in California. I have the 2020 and 2021 Bolt EV. I am still waiting for the letters from GM for battery replacement. I also had the 2017 Bolt EV for three years. Other than the very uncomfortable seats and average stereo, Bolt EVs are fun cars to drive. They are also extremely efficient in terrible stop and go traffic on the highway. Thanks for posting this video. Kind Regards,

They covered the tire pressure.
@robertlee7332
2 жыл бұрын
@@GregHassler The tire pressure topic is actually confusing for many people. Even the dealer's technicians gave me conflicting answers. If the temperature for the day is: High 80 F and Low 50 F, then the tire pressure for the Bolt EV will need to be 38 PSI at 50 F, not 38 PSI at 80 F. For each 10 F difference, the tire pressure will generally increase by 1 PSI or decrease by 1 PSI. Obviously, driving at 70 MPH will also increase the tire pressure. For three decades, I was inflating my tire pressure based on the high temperature of the day instead of the low temperature of the day. As a result, I didn't get the best fuel efficiency. That was the reason I brought up the question. Best Regards,

Sad that Mitsubishi ceased production of the Miev at Normal, Illinois. The version built there was slightly wider, so it was better suited to export to Europe than the original JDM Kei version.
