The Three Main Pillars of Mawu - Lisa among the unchristianised native ewes of west Afrika. These three main pillars are also known as Mawuviwo, which simply means the children of Mawu.
In the contemporary world, the concept of Mawu still remains functionally vague. However, instead of expected obsolescence, it continues to thrive immensely side by side with Christian teachings, for the Christians have borrowed this term to serve as the equivalent of Jehovah. This is one example in which pastors, priests and Bishops have deliberately been exploiting the existing ancient of days native Ewe spiritual concepts of the highest female deity for the benefit of their newly adopted religions. It is a fact that it has become fashionable among Christians to adopt vernacular names with Mawu for prefix or suffix at baptisms and confirmations. However, most Christians who adopt this term do not know that Mawu has three children.
