Although I was originally more enthusiastic about the "Chopin Method" channel, the more videos I have seen, the more I've realised how superficially he understands Chopin's ideas and how severely they are being misrepresented- by both the animations and films of his own hands.
In short, there is no sign of suppleness or arm freedom in the demonstrations. There is no continuity of arm motion (Chopin taught "constant" sideways arm motion for scales and arpeggios, not to stop and start erratically). Likewise, while walking is a great analogy, nothing of what he shows matches the smooth continuity of walking. It's more like stamping while holding the body tightly in place, in a state that resists free responses. Good walking is not built from stop-start juddering, without any flow.
The more the channel has posted, the more glaring it has become that the poster is entirely fixated on working from a dysfunctionally static arm. Nothing is being used to rightfully distinguish Chopin's ideas from the finger isolation ways of old, that Chopin was monumental in taking us beyond. I was originally generous enough to assume that, in spite of the problems, he would get to the role of arm continuity in good time. We are now numerous videos in and he hasn't even achieved any meaningfully fluid arm movement in a video specifically on scales. He only treats the arm movement as being there to arrive at new keys. He does not comprehend the value of a consistent arm pacing across longer groups of notes, in order to organise the finger activity into a larger physical action. Indeed, his arm movements were not paced at all. Failure to understand Chopin's underlying idea lies at the very core, and I don't anticipate any future improvement.
I would not generally be inclined to publically single out any specific individuals for presenting personal ideas, no matter how problematic. However, when someone claims to speak for Chopin, they need to be held to a high standard of expectation. The way we are constantly shown fingers poking out from a completely unresponsive arm (with no lateral smoothness of motion) is currently unfit to fulfil even a low standard of expectation. It's not an accurate representation of the evidence and neither is it an effective way to play. If this will keep being pushed as representing Chopin, the sheer extent to which it fails must urgently be exposed.
