In Western Australia a city was accidentally paved in gold & silver, with many walkways and stone structures containing an abundance of the valuable material. What I am referring to is the city of Kalgoorlie where this mistake wasn't noticed until several years later. The reason behind this mistake was a rare gold rich mineral being misidentified as fool's gold. This video will discuss the mineral in question, and telluride rich gold minerals as a whole.
NOTE: The mining of calaverite, misidentification of fool’s gold, placing it in structures & walkways, recognition of it as actually valuable, and finally removing it from structures & walkways it was originally placed in ALL occurred before 1910. If you are lucky enough to find this mineral in the city via a walkway or a building, do not remove it as that would be illegal and also wrong as it marks an unusual and fascinating tale from the area’s history.
