I saw the Clancy brothers sing this song on tv in the '60's'. I fell in love with it then, I still love it to this day, and I haven't a drop of Irish blood in me. What could that possibly mean?.

I think that my first version was by the Clancy Brothers. But maybe like horse racing they are both 2 to 1 Joint Favourites. And would I bet to be a winner? No, they are the winners. I love all there songs. They come to mind so fast and just as a test which of these would you know more than the other? "Molly Malone" or "Red Haired Mary"

Tim Finnegan lived in Wattling Street A gentle Irishman mighty odd He had a brogue so rich and sweet To rise in the world he carried a hod See he'd sort of a tripling way With love for a liquor poor Tim was born To help him on with his work each day He'd a drop of the Craythor every morn' And whack Fol-De-Dah now dance to your partner Welt the floor, your trotters shake Wasn't it the truth I told you Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake One morning Tim felt rather full His head felt heavy, which made him shake Fell from the ladder and broke his skull And they carried him home, his corpse to wake They rolled him up in a nice clean sheet And laid him upon the bed A bucket of whiskey at his feet And a bottle of porter at his head And whack Fol-De-Dah now dance to your partner Welt the floor, your trotters shake Wasn't it the truth I told you Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake His friends assembled at his wake And Missus Finnegan called for lunch First they brought in tay and cake Then pipes, tobacco and whiskey punch Biddy O'Brien began to cry Such a nice clean corpse did you ever see Aye, Tim me boy, oh why did you die? Arrah shut your gob said Paddy MCGee And whack Fol-De-Dah now dance to your partner Welt the floor, your trotters shake Wasn't it the truth I told you Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake Then Maggie O'Connor took up the job Biddy says she you're wrong I'm sure Biddy gave her a belt on the gob And left her sprawling on the floor Then the war did soon engage Woman to woman and man to man Shillelah-law was all the rage A row and a ruction soon began And whack Fol-De-Dah now dance to your partner Welt the floor, your trotters shake Wasn't it the truth I told you Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake Then Mickey Maloney raised his head When a bucket Of whiskey flew at him It missed him falling on the bed The liquor scattered over Tim Tim revives, see how he rises Timothy rising from the bed Whirl your whiskey around like blazes Thundering Jesus, do you think I'm dead And whack Fol-De-Dah now dance to your partner Welt the floor, your trotters shake Wasn't it the truth I told you Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake And whack Fol-De-Dah now dance to your partner Welt the floor, your trotters shake Wasn't it the truth I told you Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake

I felt a bit bad, but after a little whiskey I felt better. Renewed, even. It really is the 'water of life'. It's good stuff. Course, I'm drinking American Bourbon, so, it's not Irish. I would like to one day go to Dublin, and taste the local brew.

Not only was I named after James Joyce (him having been my father's favorite author and intellectual figure) but he's become my favorite author of all time too. Some of even the most respected Joyce scholars say Finnegans Wake should be ignored as unintelligible. I understood (with the help of other books) a portion of the enigmatic masterpiece's use of language and was amazed at how much it opened up once I got a few bearings in the text. Although I think it ranks lower than Ulysses as a Modernist masterpiece (From the standpoint of of an admirer of the Western Canon. It's okay if you're critical of that ideology. Hey some times I am too.) but it is definitely worth the effort for the payoff of understanding a portion of it. If for no other reason than for the laughs that you'll get once you in to it. My father introduced me to James Joyce right at the end of high school and I started reading. I never looked back and my knowledge of Joyce has now far surpassed my father's. The only sad thing is that there are no more books by James Joyce for me to read next.

@hissibling933
6 жыл бұрын
There are plenty of patterns available. Just search "Aran" knit or "Irish fisherman" knit. These sweaters are not for the casual knitter. They have a lot of complex stitches and the pattern changes often. You have to concentrate on your knitting - definitely cannot knit this as something to do while watching TV.
