My favorite Clash song. My dad and I used to fight a lot in my teenage years but everytime we were alone together, we would listen to this. I still remember being 5 and singing the chorus at the top of my lungs with him in the car. Our family is Spanish but I never connected the dots until now. Dad passed 5 months ago, I hope he knows that everytime I play this, I’m thinking of him and wishing we could sing this at the top of our lungs for one last time. Miss you Reginaldo Peres, you’ll always be my Spanish bomb.

My favourite song by The Clash. Contrasts contemporary Spain (with its beaches, casinos, and many tourists) with its violent history (a murderous authoritarian successfully coming to power) and instability hidden just under the surface, in which Western tourists are unaware or ignorant to the countries disturbing politics. The song mixes unsettling political and historical references ("Federico Lorca is dead and gone" "The freedom fighters died upon the hill") with trivial and superficial phrases ("Spanish weeks in my disco casino" "I'm flyin' in on a DC 10 tonight") and nonsensical Spanish lyrics. The songs upbeat positive tune also contrasts with the stark lyrics.

I really like this album, every song is great, and Joe Strummer has secured a place among the immortals as a musician and poet, and The Clash as a band as well...

My favourite song of all time from my favourite band. This song has everything. I saw The Clash 14 times. When they were on form there are not many bands ever that could better them live.

My teachers knew I was far ahead of my classmates in regards to History/Insight/Geography/Politics... I doubt they knew how or why, but my clothing told the story for those who knew, or needed to!

When this album came out I couldn't wait to see them live. I lived in Paris at the time and saw them on the 1980 tour. The place was rocking. Great memories.

The Spanish civil war was a fight against communism, what is happening now in Gaza is just mass murder of the Palestinian people

To think where the Clash were with the eponymous album 2 and a half years earlier both musically and lyrically to releasing London Calling is night and day, when this came out I bought it within a day or two of it’s release date and it blew me away..it was, is and shall forever remain my favourite album of all time ❤️
