First season of Heroes was so good. It was not only able to mix drama, comedy and action seamlessly as well as multiple genres, but it also had relatable characters for every type of person. Hiro for geeks, Claire for teens, Mohinder for academics, Matt for blue collars etc. All are random nobodies but interconnected. Though my personal favourites are Hiro, Noah, Mohinder and Sylar. I also applaud the show for its show of masculinity. Like, Peter is a male nurse, which was often ridiculed by society back then, but it doesn't make him any less badass. I just wish the writer's strike hadn't affected the show so much. Because following seasons were awful. Sure, the Adam Monroe arc was pretty good, but they made Hiro a man-child, Matt basically went through the same arc, Nikki was killed off just to make room for new characters and the writers didn't know what to do with Peter, Nathan, Claire and Sylar.

As someone who just completed season 1 and hated every minute of it, this show was soooo bad. The actor who played Peter petrelli was not good. He's like a slightly better Keanu reeves when it comes to acting. Too bland, he almost feels likea damn self insert. Sylar isn't all that good too. His dialogue was trash, I remember when he was first captured, and he said that his greatest ability is to find out what makes people tick. That fucking phrase has been used wayyy to many times. He was a LOT more intimidating in nos4a2. The idea of him wanting to be special because of his mom always saying that he is special + his overall insecurities is a good idea, but again, it's presented so horribly. If they wanted to make me feel like his life is shit, then fucking SHOW that. Dedicate an episode in the first season to give some background on him, FLESH him out by giving him the PROPER time he deserves. The most we got an episode that had SOME flashbacks, but that wasn't all done in his pov, we just see him as an ordinary guy, then chandra comes in, does his stuff, and he goes "nO, iM SPeCial, pAy atTEnTIon t0 mE", poorly executed. The whole thing with hiro is stupid, I remember when he was first introduced, he was yelling in his damn office, being so fucking annoying. I thought that was weird, cuz this is a damn office, nobody can just YELL like that. But then we find out thay he's the company's ceo's son, so that kinda makes sense if he ended up getting some leeway. But then the mf TELEPORTED in the damn office, front and center, and nobody bats a damn eye. That's another big problem, the background, the setting of how everything operates makes no sense. Christopher Eckelston (I think that's how u spell it) can turn invisible, but just decides to bump into dozens of people, and even tho the people actually felt that shit, they didn't stop and wonder out loud, all together with the rest of the people, about HOW THIS SHIT IS HAPPENING. The way sylar got stabbed by hiro is stupid, he was like ten feet away, yelled at him, and despite running like a chubby little boy riddled with autism, sylar SOMEHOW GOT STABBED. And sylar's "escape" is stupid. So you're telling me that despite being in an OPEN AREA SURROUNDED BY POLICE, HE STILL GOT AWAY? They've never clarified that too. When did he escape, before or after the police came? The manhole was literally 5 feet away from him, how did anybody miss that? How did the main characters and even the POLICE not see that big weird blood stain on the ground? Sure, you can say that MAYBE they're aware of it, but the blood stain is STILL THERE. It looks like the police haven't even touched it, tf is wrong with these guys? Also, the whole point of the whole save the cheerleader thing was because sylar eventually gets Claire's powers, but in the same future, he never actually obtains said powers, he does it LATER ON. Also, her first moment in the future opens up to her talking in some sort of southern accent, then 5 seconds later, she stops doing it. Tf was that? The only good thing about this show was Noah and Claire, their relationship was actually really good, and Noah is the best character in the damn cast. He played his part really well, and I did not enjoy that he wasn't the main character, Peter fucking petrelli was. Also did not like how the mom became more important in the overarching plot, it literally just happened. One minute she was a grieving mom who was stealing cuz the whole death of her husband was messing her up, a woman who clearly saw Peter as the favorite, to immediately doing a 180 with no buildup whatsoever, she ended up seeing Nathan as the "one" instead of Peter, the whole point was one parent sides with one child, and now that shit is just gone. This was a terrible show, you can like it if you want, but to ignore the faults is stupid. I wanted to like this cuz capepunk type shit is always a cool premise, but my god was this a cesspool of shit, blandness and bad story elements. Great example of poor execution, I'm glad this show is seen with negativity now. Don't put mediocrity on a high pedestal.

You know what else Heroes did really well? Genuine diversity and representation. Seeing Hiro and Ando be such major characters definitely had an effect on little Asian me when I had just moved to Canada.
5 ай бұрын
What made it done so well is that it didn’t feel forced. Same with Lost. That’s why people have a problem with woke media. Not because they’re racist but because it just feels like this. “Okay put a black gay man right here. An Asian over there next to a hispanic woman.” It just feels like look at all this diversity which just means not white. I grew up out in the country. White chicks and Blade were two movies I held near and dear to my heart. But I also loved movies with all white casts such as Troy. I don’t think a story needs to have certain skin colors. Whatever is authentic to the story is what’s needed. Tyler the creator in his old skits used all his black friends in his skits and they were the leads. Jordan peele uses black leads in his movies. If a white guy was doing that it’d be a big deal to some. I love me some diversity in film if it’s done right but I don’t always need it. I could watch a movie with an all Japanese cast if written well, and I could watch a movie with an all white cast if written well. Wouldn’t that be true diversity? A person who enjoys films with many different skin colors whether it’s multiple colors in one film or 1 color in one film?

It's also weridly not....not topical, but different, since they can't have a situation this time where they still film any current shows with scab writers. You might end up with weird gaps for plotlines when things resume, if a series resumes, but at the very least unless they replace EVERYONE in a show they can likely pick up right where they left off or close to it instead of creating seasons where there's drastic dips in quality or plotline changes.

Heroes suffered a similar problem as Stranger Things where its success interfered with the writers’ plans for it. Originally both shows were supposed to have “self-contained” seasons with a whole new cast of characters set in the same universe. But their first seasons were so popular that they didn’t want to risk people falling off if they were so attached to the old cast so yeah. We ended up with characters getting stretched pretty thin bc they were only intended to hold up a season not a series.

Heroes season 1 was peak television for so many reasons. Everything about it was just incredible. And you mentioned most of the reasons why. Hiro was basically us, right? Always loved comics and wanted to be the hero, but when he found out he did have abilities and set off on his journey, he realized it was much harder, and more tragic, than he ever expected. It was sobering. So seeing future Hiro talking to Peter on the train made so much sense. It hardened him and it was no longer "fun." It was a responsibility. It also took a toll he could barely shoulder, but he knew he had to do it. I loved that it played on that dynamic. I did like part of season 2, also, and certain aspects of the last 2 seasons, but it lost so much of what made it special. There's never been a more clear showcase of the phrase, "suffered from success," in the history of film imo. Thanks for the video!

Heroes First off, I love this series so much. Yes, the seasons got progressively “less”, lead by the snowball effect of the writer’s strike in season 2. With the exception of the last season which really felt contrived, I really enjoyed “payoff scenes” that didn’t come full circle until seasons later. One of my favorite, and simplest, examples was in the first episode where Peter and Nathan had to go to the police station to bail their mother out for shop lifting. What did steal? Socks. WTF socks? We didn’t get the answer to that wealthy woman’s needless thievery until her origins story in the 3rd season episode “1961”. Just a quick refresher, she and her sister were young when their parents took them to a “camp” for kids with abilities. Angela lightly chastised her younger sister because she didn’t pack or bring her essentials, particularly socks. Later, an incident happens, and a massacre ensues, and Angela believes that her sister was killed. When Angela discovers that her sister survived and reconnects with her, she tells her that when she feels alone and or scared (I’m paraphrasing there), she buys socks [for her sister]. Actually, I can’t remember if she says she “buys” socks or “steals” socks (the latter being most appropriate); but nevertheless, it’s one of my favorite “pay off” scenes!

A perfect time to talk about this show, considering the reason for its downfall is the same as what's going on right now. Man I loved this first season so much.

Glad I finally got time to watch this after seeing it pop up in my sub box. I remember enjoying the show over all, but there were moments of frustration with some ideas like the whole Sylar becoming Nathan thing. Also, just curious, how come you changed the video's title and thumbnail?

I loved the first 2 seasons! After that it went downhill fast. The strike that happened in 2007 was the first nail in the coffin I think. I was watching the 2nd season when I was working in Germany. Hiro time-travelling by accident was a fun storyline.

There was also 4400 show that has a similar idea. 2000s were full with cheap grounded TV shows with horror or fantastic thriller setting.

This came out my freshman year of college. We all used to gather in the comms and watch it together. I forgot pretty much everything about the show, but this kind of brought everything back and made me remember how good it was. I remember reeeeeaaaally disliking season 2, though. I stopped watching it at that point. I don't remember the characters names or even why I hated them, but there were two... siblings? Maybe Spanish-speaking? I don't know. Something about their side plot, plus everything else... It just made me grimace.

I might make a video on it. It's still not too covered on KZitem. I remember looking for vids on it a couple years ago and there were 3 or 4 videos about it on KZitem in total. Much love to this show.

I watched the entire first season a long time ago. To be honest I've forgotten most of it, However, what I do remember is that I thought it was fantastic.until the last moments of the last episode. The first season is excellent and ends with everything tying up and making sense; villains dead, world saved. What appeared to be an excellent single season series is ruined by what I consider to be a "tagged on" ending. I'm sure that the series was written to be finished in a single season, and some smart-ass executive said "but it's so popular, let's make several seasons." Watching the villain crawl away from the wreckage after everything was finished left me so revolted, I never saw another episode again. I also probably never went back to watch the first season again because of that... That and also the fact that each episode ended on an insane cliff hanger; so huge that you have to start watching the next episode if you have it available. I would feel compelled to watch the entire series in a single sitting which is tiring and a bit ridiculous... I say go ahead and watch it, but watch the first season only, and ignore the villain crawling out of the wreckage at the very end. Heck, I'm sure it can even be cut out... It's literally tagged on at the end...

My wife was a pretty casual watcher but become a strong fan. Not really into superheroes until this came about. Where the show jumped the shark was around the time Suresh's accent started to go weird and he got spider powers for no reason other than to try and make him more interesting.

The description at 12:22 confuses me. It's presented like this: Claire gets in a struggle with a dude + Claire accidentally "dies" -> Dude hides the body -> ??? finds the body -> ???? cuts Claire open -> Claire un-dies -> ?????? -> Claire tries to cover up this whole ordeal + there's no proof. What do you _mean_ there's no proof? That whole synopsis sounded like a guidebook of leads who could tell you about Claire getting shanked! My only guess as a person who hasn't watched it myself is that maybe that One Organization intervened to cover it all up?

My sisters were cheerleaders of their high school. The school was fun... very small. Went there one semester. Very different from the other two schools I attended. Hamilton Heights was about as different from Carmel High School as you could get. Heh, CHS... my initials 🙂
