8 days till St. Patrick's Day! ☘️ (I'm catching up on the days I missed while gigging last weekend)
While in Ireland last year (November 10, 2023 to be exact), I had the amazing experience of visiting the Cliffs of Moher. It seemed like a no-brainer that I should bring along my fiddle and play the jig "The Cliffs of Moher"* while there, right?
Well, as is not uncommon at the Cliffs, the wind was EXCEPTIONAL, to the point where even walking from point A to point B was a challenge. In fact, as we were leaving the site, I overheard some of the staff there discussing that they might close it early due to that day's extreme winds!
So I was a bit reluctant to crack out the fiddle, let alone attempt to play it in the wind with so many tourists around. But I was at the Cliffs of Moher and I knew I couldn't leave without at least attempting to play this tune there...
Of course, the audio turned out dreadful. Gale force winds dominated the recording and distracted me to the point that I could barely eek out the tune. Regardless, though, I DID IT and the silly grin on my face reveals that my heart was all but bursting with joy from the beauty of this magnificent location... wind and all! ❤️
Today I re-recorded the audio and added an accompaniment so it's hopefully a bit more enjoyable to listen to! The notes are there in case you read music and want to give it a go and play along with me.
*There are many different versions of the Cliffs of Moher jig. I learned from @onlineacademyofirishmusic that this particular one is very popular in County Clare!
I'm adding a new tune each day until 3/17/2024. Check out the full playlist here:
