For the one year anniversary of the closure of ALTO tower I put together this slide show of photos with audio recordings from that day. Built by the Pennsylvania RR in 1915, ALTO tower controlled the electro-pneumatic switches and signals through Altoona, Pennsylvania, home of the PRR's AltoonaWorks, via its original US&S Model 14 interlocking machine (for ALTO) and two modern CTC machines for the other interlockings. Originally it only controlled switches and signals at its own interlocking, but as time went on, ANTIS, HOMER, ROSE, WORKS, and SLOPE were all remoted to ALTO.
Note: This is my first attempt at something like this.
