Somewhere about 1978 my brother in law and I went to see George and the boys at a little club on Greenville Ave in Dallas (Redux). Had a table right next to the stage. At one of their breaks, George said "We'd like to invite a little local by to come up and play for you." It was Stevie Ray.......AWESOME

Met him around '85 when he played Orvilles Bar in Bloomfield ,Iowa of all places. He was in a huge argument with the owner .He wanted cash for the show and had to take a check. So he tells them."Oh man,If this thing bounces i'll come back and burn this shithole to the ground".Then he walked over and proceeded to bullshit with me and my brother-in -law about all kinds of shit. Some story about meeting a "guy"in an alley in Frisco and debating the quality and identity of a certain product , which he decided was best left to the strange dude to figure out.Very nice guy.Went up on stage with the rest of his band and played the best shit that little town ever heard.Town population:2000.Bar population:at least 1500.That joint was jumpin!!!Thank you Cody and the Airmen.Im 61 now and still kick back and lament that my dog died yesterday and I'm down to seeds n stems again too.But never met a more real bunch of very cool performers.Rave on children!Anyone else there?

Nice to see Nicolette Larson in the video...great voice. Sure miss George...really nice guy, easy to talk to. Once we heard him we kept coming back for more. Also, VERY nice to hear in the documentary Country Music, Ray Benson (Asleep At the Wheel), to give George credit for keeping western swing alive on the west coast in the early 70's. Way to go Ray. We'll never see someone like George again...smokin hot piano player, great band leader, talented painter and sculptor, and all round fun guy. Thanks Commander...you were the best ;)

Thanks for posting this. Contrary to the negative comments below, this tour was the first time I'd heard Commander Cody live (Carver Gym, WWU, Bellingham, WA), as a teenager, and I loved the heck out of it. This lead me to look further into the band's work. Rock on, Commander!

I know I am a bit late to the party... However, I think they meant "we haven't lost love for great music" taking time to recognize a crazy tight and best of the best group of musicians. Idk why people feel the need to just jump on a platform to tear down a positive comment. I'm stoked that there are young people such as myself not letting this music pass with time. I also don't know why I felt compelled to rehash a 10mo old comment. No love lost on either side, just support the handing down of music. It's too important not to.

Another "official" release of a video my friends and I created when we were John Scher's 'Performance Video' team. Directors back then were either Harold Klein or Len Dell'Amico. I was the Technical Manager and audio recordist; you'll laugh at this one if you've done any pro audio. I took a split off the PA system (a board mix) and dumped that into a tiny Shure mixer, along with a house mic suspended from the ceiling. I think it was an old EV omni dynamic. I'd wear headphones and mix the two together. If the FOH PA guy was good at what he did (which many of them were), I'd basically sweeten it a little with the house mic, and the track would turn out surprisingly good. The VTR was a Sony monochrome 1/2" reel-to-reel which recorded the video helically, spinning head, think VHS and Betamax; but the tape moved at 7.5 ips and the mono audio track was linear, not too bad all things considered. I don't think this was the best version of the band I'd heard up til then, but they were pros. What can we say?

Brilliant! I ran into George several year ago playing at a dive bar in Silverton Oregon before the open. We had a burger at the bar and I offered to buy him a drink. He graciously declined saying that in the condition of his liver, he couldn't drink anymore. Sadly however, after he started the gig, fan started buying them drinks and setting them on his keyboard, which he resisted for a while, but eventually started downing them in shotgun style and having a blast!
